So we dropped game 2 of 3 after decisively winning game 1. Are there concerns? Yep. We don't have a single elite infielder. Huge concern. This one isn't on JJ. Next year it will be if he hasn't fixed it. Elite infielders are a lot harder to come by than bats, and yes, even pitching. Coach brought some nice pieces from AZ but we need defense and we need starting pitching. Right now we have elite offense. You need 2 of the 3 to win a championship. Pitchers ain't going to happen this season. What have is what we have. Hilliard is good and should be the Sunday guy behind 1 and 2- not currently on the roster. Defense is currently crap. Not a single current infielder can be counted on to throw the average grounder to 1st accurately with any semblance of consistency, which is the reason. Are the elite infielders we need hidden within our current roster? No, of course not. But can we make our current shite show better? Abso fricking loutely! Thompson, I appreciate you cutting your hair but its a little too little to late. Bianco to SS. He's not fast but he's good and he will put it all out there every night, all night. He's not a big drop off from Thompson offensively and won't embarrass us every night. And secondly, Vetmier has to be the closer. He is consistent and cool as ice, what you want in a closer.

I agree with you on the pitching landscape this year. But the rest….not so much. Bianco is a hard worker and is steady but is a career sub .200 hitter. If you’re going to overhaul….Berry to DH, Jobert RF, Safford to SS, Bianco to 2nd, Doughty to 3rd, Leto at 1rst until Morgan is healthy. And…..then we probably won’t win another game. All logical though.

How hard is it to find just someone just adequate at fielding balls?

No to Jobert, The frosh have been great. No to Doughty taking over third as Berry has picked it up enough to where not everyone on TD is sky screaming about how JJ promises the kid too much.

Good defensive infielders are much easier to find than good pitchers and about equally difficult as good hitters.

Vietmeier would be an awful choice as closer. I like him, but he has been lucky. He’s not as good as his stats this year, and he is not even in our A-slate of relievers.

I’d leave Thompson at SS just because it’s possible that he’ll play error free. It’s not possible that Bianco will develop good range at SS.

Also, when you say we have no good infielders, I realize you meant, “other than Morgan”, but you did not write that.

Lastly, glance over this post, and notice the gaps between thoughts. It’s easier on the readers’ eyes.
