To really appreciate what a good hire Les was you have to hit the rewind back to 2004. This was before the SEC's run and Bama lucked out with Saban.

Had someone told you at the end of 2004 that your next coach would win a Natty, 2 SECs, 3 SECWs, never have a losing season, and go to a bowl every season in the ensuing decade you would have been crazy to have turned it down then.

Les's start was way better than his finish but he was a very good coaching hire in 2004.

Well it's because unlike our current Athletic Director, Skip Bertman was actually good at his job.

He was entertaining, but lots of other coaches could have won just as much.

Wish we had Alleva back then, Jimbo would have gotten it.

I can think of at least one coach who would have destroyed everything Saban built. He would have left Mike the Tiger cryin...

Yeah, we heard this. But I don't think that's true at all. It's very clear throughout LSU history, it's not easy to win at the rate Les did.

Right place, at the right time....and yes he was the right, proven coach but who unfortunately did not adapt his style to CFB this decade.

I'm still with CEO, let's GEAUX, BEAT AUB!!!

I was at a party watching the very first game Les coached at LSU, and there were many there bitching about the hire, just like now.

This mindset right here is how Alleva knew it was ok to hire Orgeron.

He's right. There are a lot of coaches who could have done what Miles did at LSU. However, there are also a lot of coaches who would not have handled the pressure of following Saban and tanked.

Miles was a good hire because he understood the expectations of LSU and he was able to handle following a very successful coach.

There may be as many as a half-dozen other coaches that cold have matched his track record (Saban, Meyer, Carroll, and one or two others), but I don't think there are as many as some like to think there are.

No doubt he was a very good hire. We could have found another coach close to his caliber this time around. I think any coach with moderate success with a program in a power 5 conference could have been successful here. They are definitely out there but our goof of an AD chose to not interview any of them. He should have been fired the next day after hiring Orgeron because of the way he handled things. It still baffles me that we hired Orgeron.

Well I thought we were talking about coaches that would've actually come here. Carroll was not leaving USC.

When we take those guys out the list isn't very big at all.

I agree with this.

And I was one of Les's biggest critics in '15 and '16.
