Very true. He also did that against top coaches - Tuberville, Meyer, Spurrier, and of course Saban. I truly believe if Saban had not returned to the SEC, Les would have won a couple more championships

Unfortunately, he will never be seen in public again. Dimenta, alzheimers, whatever the name, he has severe issues and is under constant care.
I wish him the best and pray for him.

Damn those pictures were tough to look at. I was as critical of Les as anyone during his time here but in hindsight, he really was a great coach. I always thought he should have done more with the talent he had at the time but I guess I never gave him enough credit for amassing so much talent year in and year out. When looking at the whole body of work, his time at LSU was as great as any coach not named Nick Saban. Les Miles was definitely an alpha and he deserves recognition for his years of sustained dominance.

Reminds of when Les was fired, and Spencer Hall wrote This Article in SB Nation.
Despite all the aggravation and hairbrained in game coaching, LSU football was fun with Les at the controls.

It’s not just that Miles was beyond fun. It’s that he and LSU together were so much fun, and that the sight of fans in banana costumes and purple and yellow batman gear and making T-Rex celebrations just seemed to spawn around him. He was fine by himself, sure, but in the daily surreal of Louisiana, Miles not only fit, but thrived.

He seemed off to me after the 2013 season and onwards.
He always seemed a bit off to me from day 1, but how much of that was his general oddness and quirkiness and how much of it was cognitive, I can't give a qualified opinion on.
But toward the end here, there was IMHO no question the cognitive issues had progressed for the worse.
I paid zero attention to his time at Kansas so I could not speak to it, but I do think the reason you have not seen him communicate publicly in years has everything to do with the cognitive issues.

Those pictures are hard. He looks distant and I know the look. I've been through it in my family. Everyone is smiling in those pictures but they are going and will be going through a rough time.

I wouldn’t have said that if it weren’t on good authority. Dementia/Alzheimers

You’re not wrong about the stare. Hate to hear it. He was a goofball but our goofball.

He ran some offenses some seasons that were absolutely brutal to watch - especially toward the end of his tenure And I'm not just saying this as someone with an aversion to "smash mouth" football. I can appreciate it IF it's accomplishing its intended goal.
I wish him nothing but comfort and peace at this juncture however.

I liked Les Miles. I just had a problem with his tendency towards "Toss Dives to the short side of the field" opening play of the LSU possession. Cringe-worthy.
But without question that season opener loss (16-14) to Wisconsin in 2016 began the Les Miles decline. Then the Auburn Clock Management disaster later on that season.
Regardless, the Mad Hatter bled Purple and Gold.

It was obvious that Les had mental problems while coaching LSU. I just wrote it off to incompetent coaching and that he wasn't the sharpest nail in the barn but it could have been some kind of disease also. His terrible time management could have been caused by some kind of neural problem where he was momentarily confused. Likewise the time he ran to the wrong side of the field coming out of the tunnel to start the game. Not to mention his having problems speaking in complete sentences and abruptly switching to different topics.

Much love to Les and his family. He gave us some great memories here. I hope he's okay.

In that stairwell picture, Les is looking quite frail...

At least bring his family back for 2027 so we could give a standing ovation on a night game on Saturday night.
I will never get over ok state losing to Iowa state that dark Friday night on Nov 18th. Cost us our 3rd NC in 9 years and changed college football landscape forever as we know it for the worse.

quote:I’d give Les a pass on 2008 because if Ryan Perrilloux hadn’t been a dumb arse and gotten himself kicked off the team, that season would have looked a whole lot different.
Only 1 truly bad year in there (2008) and even that was still an 8-win season.

These takes are so tiresome.
Sherrone Moore situation: “it was obvious and well-known to everyone on campus”

Absolutely agree.

Miles era to date is my favorite LSU era and I’ve been a fan since the 70’s. Physically just broke people but time passed him by. Prayers to him and his family.

All the best to Les… would love to see him in Tiger Stadium in 2027 for 20 year 2007 championship honoring.
