re: Les Miles continually defies the odds and it pisses me off

I think what non-LSU fans fail to recognize with all the "luck" talk is: talent & confidence. Miles shows confidence in his players and they respond to that. Yes Lee is inexperienced but he is not without talent (we wouldn't have recruited him if he didn't have it). People want to say how lucky LSU is but surely there is a few other factors there....

quote:Yes, they are. Which is why when something consistently goes against the common perception of statistics that the perception itself must be reexamined. In other words, perhaps under certain circumstances, it's not as stupid everyone thinks it is to throw on 1st down in that situation.
I have a degree in finance and I understand statistics on a basic level at least, this shite is supposed to even out eventually.
Besides, how can an Auburn loss piss you off?

Miles is a good coach but the who is better argument is old and tired; however, as a CFB enthusiast I hate his play calling (they are just not high percentage plays) but I am nore of a 3yds and a cloud of dust kind of guy.
That is a really stupid statement. How can you as a neutral observer not like his play calling? It is exciting and he lays it on the line. The really boring conservative play calling is not interesting. How can you hate exciting play calling especially if you don't have a vested interest in the outcome?

Maybe Miles is a genius and I'm a retard.
No maybe about it.
Les plays to win; he doesn't buy into playing not to lose, and you can see how much the players appreciate that about him and his coaching staff.
Miles shows confidence in his players, and they continue to respond to that confidence.

You're on the other team's 20 yardline. There's 1 minute left on the clock. You're down by 1 point. You've been running it on them to get it to their 20. You have an inexperienced QB. You throw it on 1st down
To cover the spread (LSU -3) .... that's it

This thread is so gay and so hilarious at the same time. All the hate and self-deluded put-downs toward Miles to validate your own program and this is the shite you are reduced to saying on an LSU message board. This is really priceless.

Well I think we all knew that we weren't going to get anywhere running the ball without the slightest threat from the passing game.

I took out the "maybe".

One last thing. It ain't 1950 anymore. Three yards and cloud of dust is simply not a viable strategy. It's why Woody Hayes got fired. He couldn't adjust to the modern game.
And that was before the modern game became truly modern. Being afraid to pass went out thirty years ago.

Gary Crowton is THE man. I hate to think what the outcome would have been with Jimbo at the helm... thank you Coach Crowton!

It's not like only Bama fans are questioning this decision.
Who cares who is questioning the decisions? The pass last year was a great play because there was actually plenty of time for the play and if it's not complete then we still try the long FG. How can anyone question taking a stab at the endzone to end it rather than putting it all on a FG in that situation? There were about 40 seconds when the previous play ended. Flynn took an eternity to get the play off and the pass was still caught with 4 seconds on the clock. In fact, if he gets it off with any time on the 25 second clock we are still safe if they run the play straight down the field like they did. The fact that the clock was allowed to run down to 1 seconds is meaningless. It would have been better if it had run out because then LSU wouldn't have even had to kickoff. If it's incomplete the FG is still the last play of the game as the clock would have still had time on it, probably 3 seconds. So, everything timewise went wrong and the play still worked. That's because when it was called there was time to spare. It was all needed, but it was still a smart call. The pass last night was equally smart. Why put it on a FG when you still have a chance to score? And it worked precisely because everybody was expecting Scott to run it up the middle to keep the FG try in the middle of the field. Let people think what they want. Both plays were excellent calls with minimal risk. Both plays increased the odds of a better outcome, rather than simply settleing for a risky FG with everything on the line. That my friend is smart. Those who question and twist the circumstances to sensationalize on it are what is known as ignorant.

here's a helluva lot better chance of a sack or a Lee TO than a Scott fumble
It was a relatively safe pass on a 3 step drop. Our OLine was owning the game at that point. It is probably just hard for you to understand that a coach can actually believe that his players will execute. Unlike your coach who bases all his decisions on the likelihood that they will fail. Our guy BELIEVES in his players, and is willing to win or lose with them.

I can only assume you fail to see the irony in this. Can he really be a retard if they keep winning?

I read this thread already on the Sooner board many times over the past 2 years.

There's a reason Miles just became the first LSU head coach since Gerry DiNardo to win a football game in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
There's a reason Miles has coached four games against Tuberville and LSU has won three of them.
There's a reason Miles has a national championship in his trophy case and Tuberville has an undefeated but unrewarded season in his.
It's not just luck.
The Mad Hatter plays to win.
