I agree with this. Family should have put their personal feelings aside and supported him.
Why? If he was my son or brother I'd be totally hacked off and I wouldn't sugarcoat it either. The reason you see other families support the player is probably because the recruiting process has run it's course and everybody is resolved to what is taking place. In this case the process is obviously not over. His mother's reaction is all you need to know that. It's his fault if he's alianated his family with a bad decision. If he can't change their mind then he should consider changing his mind. They're mad for a reason. The reason is probably the fact that it's a poor decision by him.

anyone think the girl friend isn't involved now?
It's pretty obvious that this is between the GF and the momma. GF won tonight because tonight don't mean nothing. On signing day momma wins because it means something then. All the wasted time worrying about this thing and it's just really getting started.

Gunner said that LSU was on him all along and never waivered.
Well, the stats weren't all that great for the QBs. But they all played. With all three offenses. Against all three defenses. And how much of it was redzone, etc. Also, according to the stats there were some good individual efforts on both sides of the ball. I wouldn't read too much into it either way. I would put together what we know about both scrimmages so far and say that IMHO we will be able to run the ball on anybody this year. Having said that, I will go out on a limb and say that whichever of the two Junior QBs in in there will be greatly improved over the last two years, just from that fact alone. I'll also call it right here. Our defense will run circles around that red elephant defense that is supposedly reloading. If one of these boys can just manage the offense this will be a great team. Book it.
I saw plenty of Ford in HS. He has it all. Speed, vision, power, you name it. He should not have been red-shirted last year, but he is only stronger and faster now. He will burst on the scene and bring comparisions to Emmit Smith. With any kind of O line play we will have a dominating running game this year with Ford and Ridley running around and over people and Ware knocking people over and picking holes inside. These guys will make life a lot easier for Jefferson.

UF in 1979. I think we won something like 20-0. I also went to the FSU game a couple weeks later amid all the speculation that Bobby Bowden would replace Mac. I think if we had beaten FSU that day that Bowden would have taken the LSU job. I remember his comments about how winning that game emboldened him to stay at FSU and continue to build a program there.
They're going on more than just camp performance, not that camp performance is less important than game film. In both cases it was simply a matter of the players not being as exposed as some other players. The little film that is available backs up the camp performances. As well as the assessments of the HS coaches.
And how many coaches can boast that all of their recruits qualified, as is the case with the 25 from 2009. I wonder if the star rankings refered to factor in who actually qualifies.

I can only think of 2 questionable guys (guys people didn't know a lot about) that the recruiting services "hyped up" (to 4-stars)...gibson and mathieu
Neither is questionable. Gibson is solid and Les just pulled the trigger and offered him early. It doesn't really matter if he is a 3 or 4* at this point, but as an athlete you can justify him being 4*. Mathieu is the real deal. He could easily be 5* at his projected position after his camp performances. What difference does it make who knew what about him before that? Like somebody else said, I think we have one or two question marks, which is just about average, but these two are not among them.
quote:
He is going to be the sleeper of the class, since everyone has basically forgotten about him.
Forgotten as in "not counting on him" maybe, but the guy is a five * stud as good as any. If that LOI comes in Wednesday it will be as sweet as any other top recruit's. Actually, more so, since he's been "forgotten". LOL. And it will also seal the deal as far as this class being by far the best this year.
quote:
We really have 5 very good backs right now if you count TH. We don't need Ford next season.
I expect Ford to be no less than our third back next year. He's SEC ready. Book it.
quote:
So, Ford will probably redshirt, right?
With Scott coming back, and what I think will be the emergence of Ridley, I'd hate to waste a year with him being the 5th TB. But I've never seen him play, either. Can he walk on campus and beat out Keiland, Ridley, and Murphy?
Ford will play. Redshirting him would be a waste. How much he will play I don't know, but he is in SEC shape right now and has the kind of game that sometimes translates very well to the next level. His field vision, change of direction, and acceleration are exceptional. He will be drug down from behind by the fastest SEC dbs, but very few aren't. The guy has the potential to live in the opponents backfield. Ford easily should be a 5 star and in my opinion there is no doubt that he is at least a top 10 player nationally. His very early commitment to LSU hurt his status. Put it this way. If he were an Alabama commit he would be the top RB on Rivals and in the conversation when you talk about the no. 1 ranked player. His open field speed (about 4.5) would probably keep him down to the 2nd, 3rd or 4th ranked player, but he is that good. And yes, I've seen him in person. The game I saw was against a decent playoff team. He carried the ball about 35 times (typical) and had about 450 yards (typical). Every single carry except for two or three where he was wrapped up as he was getting the handoff were highlight film calibre. Any single game he played in has all you need for a complete highlight film.
Why go to Bama to take pressure off of the no. 1 receiver? And not know if anybody there will even be able to get the ball to him? If he comes to LSU he will have a great QB situation his entire time here and HE can be THE MAN with others taking the pressure off of him. That's exactly what Saban would be telling him if it were the other way around, and it's a more compelling argument by far. The "taking pressure off of Jones" argument is lame on it's face. That's just a pretty way of saying you'll be second fiddle.
quote:
-Ford had one of the best runs I've seen in a while. On his 78 yard touchdown pass reception, he made 2 to 3 nice cuts and ran away until someone caught him but it was too late. He looks great and has a very good burst
I have to say that I am more and more excited about Ford. I saw the replay of the short pass and 78 yard run on the sports. He will not leave SEC DBs behind if they have the angle on him. But he jukes or changes direction to make you miss and he is back up to his normal speed in one step. After about the third break of stride and acceleration he was finally caught from behind after he had already reached the endzone. The way he picks his move and weaves around for maximum advantage reminds me a lot of how Chris Brown did it at ASH before going to OU. But Brown got caught from behind immediately when he got into space and a fast db was on him. Ford runs away from the HS dbs he plays against. I don't expect him to run away from SEC dbs but he will get a ton of yards and spend a lot of time in the secondary. He also looks like a body builder and has proven that he can carry the ball on virtually every down.
quote:
-Kenny Bell was used as a wide out and struggled. He had a fumble which led to a scoop and score. He also dropped a wide open TD pass.
I saw that play on the sports. The pass was obviously a lateral as he was hit almost simultaneously with the ball arriving. If not a lateral then it would have been an incomplete pass as he never had it. I assume that is the play you are talking about because it was a scoop and TD.
quote:
It's not like only Bama fans are questioning this decision.
Who cares who is questioning the decisions? The pass last year was a great play because there was actually plenty of time for the play and if it's not complete then we still try the long FG. How can anyone question taking a stab at the endzone to end it rather than putting it all on a FG in that situation? There were about 40 seconds when the previous play ended. Flynn took an eternity to get the play off and the pass was still caught with 4 seconds on the clock. In fact, if he gets it off with any time on the 25 second clock we are still safe if they run the play straight down the field like they did. The fact that the clock was allowed to run down to 1 seconds is meaningless. It would have been better if it had run out because then LSU wouldn't have even had to kickoff. If it's incomplete the FG is still the last play of the game as the clock would have still had time on it, probably 3 seconds. So, everything timewise went wrong and the play still worked. That's because when it was called there was time to spare. It was all needed, but it was still a smart call. The pass last night was equally smart. Why put it on a FG when you still have a chance to score? And it worked precisely because everybody was expecting Scott to run it up the middle to keep the FG try in the middle of the field. Let people think what they want. Both plays were excellent calls with minimal risk. Both plays increased the odds of a better outcome, rather than simply settleing for a risky FG with everything on the line. That my friend is smart. Those who question and twist the circumstances to sensationalize on it are what is known as ignorant.

Bell will likely redshirt, meaning his RS Frosh year in 2010, Byrd will be long gone... LaFell, Chris Mitchell, Jared Mitchell, and RJ Jackson will all be gone. It still remains to be seen if DeAngelo Benton will ever qualify. Basically his competition will be Terrance Toliver, Ricky Dixon, Jhyryn Taylor, DeAngelo Peterson, Chris Tolliver, and any WR recruits we sign this year. Toliver is a given as a starter (on the outside), but Kenny Bell will likely play slot receiver in college. He could be a contributor as an RS Frosh and possibly a starter by his RS Soph year.
Not to mention that at LSU he receives championship rings to show off.

Maybe nobody asked him previously about his thoughts on the depth chart. All he said was what he thought about it, which is what anybody would think he thought if they knew anything about the situation. But this whole article gives too much credit to the depth chart. In the final analysis a player goes where he wants to be. Period. If the depth chart is thin, then that is one of the reasons. If the depth chart is crowded, then he says he has confidence that he can come in and compete and beat the others out. Nothing earth shattering here.

Are you talking about the LSU Tiger Tour banquet held in New Orleans on Sunday night? If you are, I was there and I don’t recall Les stating that he “got a few commitments over the camp”. I heard him say that there was a “good possibility” he would get a few commitments form some of the guys at camp.
That makes sense as the camp just started yesterday I believe.
