Might be recruiting related.

Does he still have contacts in Cali and get us a little more support or little less of high school coaches trying to keep kids at USC, Cal or UCLA if he is here?

Do we know if he'll be able to participate in recruiting in this role? What would he be calling these coaches about?
"Hi coach, John here. You see any potential 5-stars in the middle schools in your area? Any kids in your program or conference you're really sold on? Any "problem children" among the top kids in your area?"

etc.

I'm asking, you said O is thinking 3-4 moves ahead, I just didn't know how Coach Robinson fit into this long-term strategy.

You can tell who really hates O more than they love LSU when they bitch about stuff like this. What could it possibly hurt having this guy around the program?
I don't see what the uproar is? its a Consultant position as in different opinions, more ideas and perspectives. Maybe he can open recruiting doors out west.

In all fairness to everyone that you're talking about, look at who Bama has staffed themselves with compared to us.

And I say that as someone who doesn't think this is a bad move. I think it's weird and a little out of left field, but not bad.

He's a consultant. He's not coaching players. It's really that simple

Y'all people won't be bitching after Robinson gets a commit from the next Eric Dickerson.

Sarkisian was a very bad move IMO. I guess we'll see.

There are things for which you can criticize O. This really isn't one of them. Robinson will serve as a mentor/adviser. The guy has coached for decades, at every level. If he is a sounding board for O during the season that's probably not a bad thing.

This isn't a Jerry Sullivan type of situation where he's being asked to coach WR's and coordinate the passing game (because your other WR coach is simply just a NOLA recruiter).

Robinson is 83, is he a long-term piece of the program O is trying to build?

I know you hate O, but if it is okay with you, I would like to win this year.

Besides, what is the downside?

As for Saban, yes he has earned the right to hire whomever he likes, but maybe...just maybe, those hires actually helped him to be as successful as he has been.

John Robinson is a class act. He'll be a great resource for O.
I'm sure he'll have better insight than Ponamsky on how to run a program.

As a leader, you always want to be learning and challenging yourself to think differently. If you look at O's track record here at LSU, that's exactly what he's doing

This is a guy known for hiring yes-men and employing trolls to harangue critics on the internet. He reportedly almost got in a fistfight with the last guy that challenged him to think differently.

Some you people just like to bitch. If Saban would do the same thing you would be kissing his arse.

But the question remains. Would Saban do this?

I haven’t seen anyone complaining about this. Sure, some question if he actually brings anything of significance to the table, but no one is saying this is a terrible move

Who here would laugh at a college baseball coach that had Skip as a special consultant?

I have no idea of his duties or his mental acuity. But, I don't have any reason to think it is sillier than hiring Bertman

All of this but everyone already knew who was going to be bitching about it.
