What are the odds this is a cover story and the real reason behind the scenes is seasoned PR vet Michael Bonnette shutting that shite down?

Just seems to be very coincidental timing with the overall firestorm around his OM departure and then the Vanity Fair blowback.
Then when you throw in the somewhat recent controversies with Les and Ed O it leads one to think there may be more to it than is given.

Personally I think him doing his thing online is great for appealing to recruits and boosting brand recognition for LSU, but I am in the younger demographic.

I’ll miss his twitter

But he shouldn’t be on there at all.

A 16-year-old kid should really be trusted to keep quiet on something like this. Sure. Whatever you think.

Lane will do what he wants and Bonnette doesn't have the authority to "shut down" Kiffin. Kiffin is the CEO. He calls the shots.

More likely, Kiffin is trying to stay focused as he has a lot on his plate and he is under far more scrutiny after his departure from Ole Miss. Plus, LSU is a marquee program and Ole Miss is just Ole Miss. Kiffin doesn't need to have as big a social media presence at LSU. The spotlight is already on a big brand like LSU.

It remains to be seen whether he can sustain his social media abstinence, especially if he puts. a few skins on the wall in the first month of the season.

Spurrier was as big a troll as Kiffin, he just didn't have the social media savvy, presence etc.

I’m not sure why people are acting like this is new information. He talked about the bet weeks ago in an interview.

Buddy, Bonnette is the LSU “deep state” lol.

He’s made it through 4 head coaches and is on his 4th AD. He has a lot more pull that you’d think.

It was obviously Kiff deciding he needed to grow up and focus on what’s important. It’s pleasing to me he has that capacity to mature .

He knows that every fan will melt over his Twitter use after the first loss so he is getting ahead of them

He definitely has nudes of someone important to be able to get away with nonsense like giving an endless flow of retards beat writer credentials

But he’s not telling the head coach at LSU what he can/can’t do on social media. Nor would the current head coach listen to him if he tried

He keeps his job because he is good at it, knows how to keep his mouth shut, and doesn't try to pull strings against people who have more pull than he does.

Kiffin reports to the AD and the University president; that's it.

ETA, Bonnete has been in the LSU Athletic Communications Department since he was a student intern in 1994 and was hired permanently as an associate sports information director. So he has been through way more than 4 coaches.

LSU accepted LK twitter presence and trolling as part of the package when they hired him.

He told us why he initially went offline and why he’s stayed off and it makes perfect sense.

Let’s give credit to Knox for recognizing some of the negatives (criticisms) that came out of Lane’s “addiction”, and social expectations to continue to one up his last posts. Lane’s decision to come to LSU had greatly raised national snipers for everything that he did. Once Lane accepted the challenge, he realized how much of a part of his energies it had become. I like that he expressed a sense of relief that his son had helped him shed that part of his life. Thanks Knox.

Why does this non football story line keep popping up? This season can’t get here soon enough!

Wouldn’t blame him for this. Lane is getting big money to coach football- not pop off.

And I’m on the Lane train
