Relatively younger coach. Has done well at La Tech.

Spent a number of years as an assistant at Southern Miss and Moo State, both of which have very good baseball programs.

Presumably knows recruiting in LA/MS.

Probably would not have to back up the Brinks Truck to get him.

Whenever CPM decides to go hang out with the grandkids... is this our next coach?

He has done well at LA Tech this year. No doubt. Definitely has the background and experience. Definitely want someone a little younger with some fire and desire.

Not a bad take. Have an upvote

I would have no problem with hiring him as long as he brought in good assistants

I would put him on the short list
I still would swing for the fences first, whoever that would be, like the Texas Tech coach or Okl St coach or Michigan coach.
I would also see if Godwin is interested.

I have no idea if he'd be a good coach or not but what I do know is that ever since Joe Brady the rant has fallen in love with young coaches.

I would look for anyone who wouldn't start Bianco at 2b for a road SEC series. That's a non starter.

He's a good dude that has coached under some successful coaches. I think he's the best of the in-state coaches.

I think we can aim higher though.

So having a measure of success at La. Tech is the litmus test to get an elite level like LSU? Certainly, they could fish in deeper water for bigger fish such as McDonald at Louisville, etc. before having to fall back to Burroughs.

Interesting that you think of him as a fall back.

Big time coaches don't move to other big time schools. LSU is going to need to get a good up and coming coach from a mid-size school. That is the path to success.

We literally pulled Mainieri from Notre Dame after he had taken them to Omaha.

Not necessarily true. Because by comparison, how many people were on here falling in love with old decrepit coaches? Not many. Most people wanted a young up and comer prior to joe Brady. Granted, we struck gold him and not every hire is going to produce like that. But the rant wanted young and enthusiastic well before joe Brady. He just cemented that concept even further.

Looks like he’s improved record at both schools

Not saying he should top of the list but I’d 100% take him over other in state coaches

I think it's more to do with Mainieri than Brady. Mainieri reached the ultimate goal in college baseball coaching unless you are shooting for a dynasty like Skip. Paul got comfortable and relaxed after the championship. I think most of us want someone hungry and motivated. It doesn't take 30 years of knowledge to know who your best players are or set a lineup. It doesn't take a great deal of experience to make in game decisions or hire good assistants. We want someone that is going to recruit and emotionally motivate these kids.

Not saying that it can’t be done again but that was 15 years ago, more programs are willing to pay top dollar now. Look how many coaches turned down Texas 5 years ago.

There are coaches in the SEC that would leave their current gig for LSU.

I was told over the weekend that it was a “done deal” with a local high school coach with strong ties to LSU

I don’t doubt that. Just saying that Texas got turned down by Tadlock, Schloss, Mcdonell and more in their search. If LSU goes after those guys, they’ll likely turn LSU down as well.

I agree on those, though I wouldn’t even consider schloss. McDonnell would be my first call, make him say no. Tadlock is at his alma mater and seems set, but his AD voted against the third paid assistant so maybe he has reason to think the ad doesn’t have the programs best interest at heart.
