I could see Saban in some kind of consultant role if he wanted it. I can't envision him willingly schmoozing with donors or poring over financial statements. A good AD has to be good at one or the other, or preferably both.

Landry is all about him and everything he does is in his mind to boost his profile.
So he tries to pander to his constituency, but his attempts are so transparent that even the folks who should be on his side can't abide by them....and that really takes some doing in this partisan political atmosphere of today but by golly this dude has found a way - and repeatedly.

Landry a USL grandstanding politician that knows nothing about LSU . He and his meddling BOS and their preselected President from McNeese, are about to screw this whole thing up and get us Dinardo level coach.

From the rumors about what was said to Woodward by Kelly, I have no doubt that Kelly was going to be fired without Landry.
As a matter of fact, I think Landry made sure that he got the credit for firing him and mostly for political clout. If I was Woodward or any self respecting AD, I would not want to work in a system that required me to have the Governor looking over my shoulder. Only a patsy arse puppet would want that job.

I mean, the man didn't even require being able to communicate and still managed to not win anything.
But he got the girlfriend and drinking part right.
Landry knew enough not to raise ticket prices at a time when you couldn't give tickets away watching paid kids that wouldn't play for their coach.
He also knew you couldn't walk to the stadium without getting stoned breathing the air around you.
