For a freshman, eh, not really.

He struggled on some plays, never really spilled over to entire games.

Both guys, actually. Extremely poised and on to the next play.

Why is the assumption that he can take Jones' spot, but not Will's spot? Boy has said it every time we've either "heard" from the coaches on his remarks, or in past interviews, that he intends to play LT. I love his enthusiasm. Let's see where things are after Fall Camp.

Because Jones was projected as a guard during recruitment so the thought process is that Jones would kick inside and Herad would play tackle.

Now can Heard win the LT and move Cambell to RT? That would shock me but its not out of the realm of possibility.

There is consideration of him playing right tackle and moving the current RT to RG if he is one of the better players. This will add great depth since the current RD can play any spot on the OL including center if he needed because of injury.

Jones can play guard. Not sure WC can… at least not as well as Jones.

Probably, but the best players are going to play. He is the best OT prospect Ive seen coming into LSU since Whitworth.

One of the better to wear the P&G, he was redshirted his first year, much like another great at LSU, Alan Faneca, he too was redshirted his first year.
As for Heard, I’ll let the coaches decide, he can still play in a few games and get the redshirt.
I know this, Kelly does a great job with the OL, having Brad Davis is also a major plus. LSU’s Kelly and Staff have built a OL with some depth.

They played together at Neville He is not better than Will C, probably all the hoopla is Emery was IOL not a OT and presumably he’d ease back into regular position.

Feels like we have more legit tackle prospects on the roster right now than we did for the entire Miles/O eras.

For a guy that played the position, an coached the position, he was such a failure at OL player evaluation. Had a couple really good OL coaches, but tied their hands in recruiting.
For the time spent at LSU, Les had 6 players drafted on the OL. O had more than that in his short time at LSU. Kelly will do way better, as to putting players into the NFL from our OL.

I am more concerned about Center. Will Turner win it again or will Martinez take it?

Take this for what it’s worth, Jim Nagy who leads the Senior Bowl, had very good things to say about Turner as they are evaluating guys for next years senior bowl

LINK

quote:

We were only about 20 snaps into Turner’s @LSUfootball junior tape when we wrote in our notes—“how was this guy only a first-year starter last year?

#69 Turner jumps off tape with his twitch and excellent flexibility so we won’t be surprised when he’s among top testing OL at Combine next spring. @turner_cha75 runs his feet & sustains at high rate, he has quick eyes and feet in pass pro, and he naturally recovers back into position when seemingly beat.

Being labeled “undersized” (6031v, 293v) always held him back until last year when he proved he has necessary functional strength to hold his own in SEC. While NFL scouts will want to see him continue to add bulk, he does have ideal length for center position (34 arm, 82 wing).

This is a great battle. Remember, both of these guys are Juniors. So they have to get a starter and backup ready. We’ll see.

Nagy pumps his guys up big time

But also if he is going to be a Sr bowl invitee, that usually bodes well for his draft stock

We have one opening on the line as for now, LOG, the name Dellinger comes into play. But I would just pencil him in for now. Kelly and Brad will put the best 5 on the line.

Like ole Curley use to say, “ It’s as open as a Case knife in a barroom brawl!”

Well someone will have to be ready at left guard. Dellinger will get hurt on approximately 62% of the snaps this season.

I watched Heard twice this year. I don’t think he is nearly as ready as Will was.
