Definitely wasn’t worth leaving early for. Hopefully he makes the roster. *shrugs*

He can make the practice squad and make 6 figures for half a year while learning under an actual NFL coach vs coming back to play for free....

25k will keep the lights on about 6 months in an average apartment/house.

And Idk I really think if he would’ve come back and cleaned up his attitude he would’ve definitely been drafted next year.

Being drafted in the 5-7th round gives you the same risk as being undrafted. I doubt he could have come back and bumped himself up to a 1-4 round pick

Being drafted at least 5th -7 round you get a contract totaling $2.5 mil. Vs $25K to be an UDFA.

Ask Dupre how much of that he saw last year? He got his signing bonus and was cut before the season so he didn't see his actual value contract. Now yes the signing bonus is more for being drafted but you can also end up in a place that doesn't need you like Dupre did. Tolliver was able to pick his location and may have a better shot at earning a roster spot and making more.

Bull fricking shite. If you’re drafted in the 5th and you don’t pan out and get cut, it’s a way bigger negative reflection on the GM and decision makers than cutting a UDFA, and you can bet that they’ll give a 5th rounder more chances than a UDFA. You have more slack as a draft pick in any capacity than a UDFA, even if it’s just intangibly and not financially.

Is this LSU’s new rant narrative btw? That it’s somehow cool to leave college early to be a UDFA and make $200k after taxes for 3 years then get thrust into a job working for Popeye’s just because you might not get drafted following your senior season? There are many reasons to stay for kids who aren’t quite NFL material when it’s all said and done.

Yeaaa I doubt any football player who was an UDFA is gonna be working for Popeyes.

I’m pretty sure the connections they made throughout college and even the draft can land them a job in the sports world Lol

Not really. Hester and Flynn were talking about this the other day. They said the myth of alums hooking you up with an awesome job is overrated. Heck Tyrone prothro was a bank teller for a while. And he played at Alabama.

Yeah every player who isn't a 1st or 2nd round pick should come back and play for free because the next year they will be. Also, none are going to be working at Popeyes. Most come back and end up selling insurance, working in plants, working in media, or selling cards.

It's amazing how mad some people are that some of these young people made their decision and left school thin at a certain position. Most of these posts are people mad about juniors leaving early and leaving the team in a worse spot. Nothing to do with you really having these young men's best interest.

Some LSU fans love when our own players suffer. Fck it, they made decisions that aren't the same decision you would make. No need to take every chance you get to bash them or be angry. Smh

Last I heard chris hawkins was working at ATT and he played for a couple years in the league. The “hookup” def isn’t guaranteed

He's going to make a team and get a six figure salary. I am confident he will turn it on. He was great player his freshman year, hopefully he puts it all together again. Sometimes a change of scenery is just what this kid needs.
