Why is everything about race with some people? Bech is really good and has nothing to do with his race. He’s a nightmare mismatch at TE with his quickness and elite route running

Kole Taylor is not an asset as a blocking TE. Not physical and still not enough time in the weight room.
For those who claim he has WR skills, he has not yet shown them. Routes are not sharp and little separation.
Last year he averaged 5.1 yds/game. He has 6 catches for 36 yds, a stat helped along by a single 20 yd reception. Bech is a better choice from a receiving standpoint, even as a true freshman. Neither are ideal as blocking TEs.

This guy is a nightmare matchup for a DE or OLB with his length/speed combination. His routes don't have to be WR quality. I'm not saying your wrong and that he will be a breakout player even but to ignore his physical talents and the problems those present for defenders is foolish.

No team uses DEs to cover TEs man

Taylor is a tall guy, it's about his only real asset though. He's maybe a 4.9-5.0 40 guy, struggles to get separation from anyone and his ability after the catch is pretty limited. Like I said, his better comparison here might be Colin Jeter. People get enamored with super tall players, like "omg nobody can cover someone 6'7" but it's really not that difficult if they can never get separation or do much after they catch the ball.

Remember when everyone here thought Stephen Sullivan would dominate because he was this 6'6 WR/TE hybrid who could play TE but had WR skills? Well, turns out that never really materialized and he was more background receiver than uncoverable target.

Kole needs to quit dropping balls at practice. It’s got to be excessive if it’s getting brought up as what’s stood out

He was always a depth guy, never meant to be a starter. The plan was for Gilbert in 2020-2022 and then hand over to Jake Johnson in 2023 there basically while a guy like Taylor was always in the shadows just providing a little bit, but likely never enough to be noticed. Now we're in a spot he has to play and likely play a lot because we just cant not have a TE on the field ever in our offensive scheme. It's just not a good spot for him. I know he is trying to do all he can but I really hope the fanbase doesnt rip him apart if he's not anywhere close to what we had previously at TE.

The way I look at it is he was supposed to be the Logan Stokes of the TEs here but now we expect Foster Moreau, Thad Moss, Arik Gilbert since he's forced to the front and that's just not who he is. Maybe he can be a Colin Jeter for us, if he can rise just a bit more.

I think you're selling him a bit short. He's got really great hands and a frame to be a mismatch in the red zone. I am not saying he's Gronk or Arik, but he could be a pretty dang good weapon for us once he gets his strength up.

I just said he had great hands without knowing this was happening

He was excellent at catching balls in traffic in high school and I thought he was solid every time I've seen him at LSU.

Hopefully it's just the temporary yips.

Difference is Stephen Sullivan didn't start out at TE and if he had he might be playing in the NFL. He's bouncing around as-is in the league as a TE with absolutely no experience.

Don’t understand what’s funny. I guess it depends on how you define breakout.

He may not finish as an all American or lead the conference in receptions but his name is gonna he spoken a pretty good bit on saturdays. Depth chart alone says he’s gonna get some volume and he’ll be a safety valve for a young mobile QB with a tendency to flush and extend plays. Max has shown short throws on the run to be a strength. Basically, he’d be a great bench stash in fantasy.

We will badly miss Arik Gilbert as we did in the games he missed last year.

Yeah! Sorely missed vs Florida and Ole Miss.
Arik's absence didn't cost us games, it was interceptions by a freshman QB.

He’ll be very hard to cover in the red zone.

I don't know man.

He seemed to drop some balls in the spring game.

I hope everyone isn't putting their hopes on kole taylor to be this great threat of the offense.

He will catch what he should.

I'm worried about his blocking more than his catching. He needs to get stronger and in better position.

Good thing is he was a true freshman last yr so he should be improved

Really, you've never seen a DE drop into coverage ? Didn't we have a DE with a pick 6 in our opener last season ?
You pricks sit around all day waiting for someone to say something you think you can jump on to feed your ego.

this place is becoming unbearable.

How was that Kole's fault.
He was playing behind a man who was labeled the best TE prospect in the history of football.
He probably didn't get many reps in practice. When Arik quit, he was forced onto the field with a true freshman QB that was inconsistent at best and a turnover machine at worst.

In the practice film I have seen, he seems to have good hands and can get his body in position to make the reception.
If he can do that in a game, his height will give him an advantage over DBs.

This thread is not about hammering or "faulting" Kole Taylor.
The assertion is made that Taylor is to be the "breakout player in the SEC" (or one of a handful).
I think the point being made by several of us is there is little evidence to support this prediction.
Nobody seems to have an axe to grind with Taylor. He's just a sophomore. But aside from height, he is undersized, not strong, not physical and not fast. His routes are not very good yet and that, combined with lack of speed, creates problems in establishing separation.
Some say he drops a lot of passes in practice, but I cannot speak to that.
From what I see, he is an unlikely candidate to "breakout" as an SEC star or an LSU star.
