Klatt on Underwood.

For what it's worth, I am listening to Joel Klatt. He says Underwood has not made any progress and has regressed. Film looks really bad, says film is "incredibly hard to watch". He wonders how long Michigan can stick with him. I know this one is in the past and I know this one really pissed us off, but we may have dodged one here.

It also motivated our boosters to fund a top dollar roster, which left Kelly without any excuses last season.

When is the last time that LSU really wanted a guy, lost him, and he ended up being great? Was it Devonta Smith? Pat Surtain II? I know there have been recruiting losses in the past and there are obviously great players at other schools so we had to have missed on some, but I’ve just don’t remember a player we really want that goes somewhere else and succeeds.

What I learned from the BU situation was that I will spend that kind of money on proven players like Chambliss, Leavitt, etc but not on a HS kid.

He probably won't make it to October. Venables is gonna stuff him in a garbage can on Saturday then a couple weeks later they've got Iowa.

Underwood reminds me so much of dj uiagalelei. Both were high rated prospects coming out of high school due to their physical tools, but can’t read any defenses when it comes to this level of football.

I know he threw the winning pass in the last game, but considering who it was, it shouldn't have been that close. I don't know if it's the offensive scheme, the coaching, or just him, but he is far from his all world billing when he came out.

He got paid for his potential, yet no one coached him up. Not sure past regime would have, but he should have some regret now...

I remember reading recruiting articles on BU and saying how elite he was at 7 on 7 tournaments and how quickly he processed the information. They were talking about how even though his physical tools were incredible, his mental game was even better.
Maybe Kelon Russel at bama was the better prospect after all.

I’d say this is more specifically for guys who had really dramatic recruitments that we missed out on. When that happens, it’s usually a pretty good sign they are a headcase.
Devonta Smith wouldn’t fall in that category because his recruitment was pretty straightforward. He was always going to bama.
Dak Moore and Surtain are the only two that I can think of recently that panned out. Surtain is a little iffy in that category too because he technically never committed to LSU. He just acted like the most committed uncommitted recruit I’ve ever seen.

That’s probably a much better way to look at it. If LSU loses a recruit in a dramatic fashion, it’s typically better for LSU. Along these lines, maybe Landon Collins was the last player to dramatically flip and pan out?

Chambliss started one year in DIII and only got the starting job at Ole Miss when Simmons got hurt. The gamble paid off, but taking him was a huge gamble, at least as much as taking a chance on a HS kid.

Colin Simmons from Texas as well. We were his number 2 and he’s doing really well at Texas.

Kiffin is still at Ole Miss if Underwood doesn’t bail on us. That got the ball rolling then Kelly telling us we’re spoiled sealed his own fate.

He’s been in a horrible situation up there and it’s too bad. He probably would have been much better here, but it would mean that we’d still have Kelly. So I’m glad he never came. But it does suck for the kid. Hopefully he can transfer somewhere and redeem himself.
