As the official Heisman rep, I figured he’d try to at least pretend it was up for grabs.

At this point even Fields, Hurts and Young know he’s winning and are just excited for a fun weekend in NYC

Honestly I don’t see any reason for 4 people to be invited. They’re just trying to get people to watch though.

He kind of wants to be correct.

I read The Athletic poll results today. All 51 of their writers - ALL OF THEM - had Burrow #1. He got 153 points. Fields was #2, with 63 points.

He's been all LSU all year. I take it you don't watch ESPN early weekday mornings. I get to work from home so I get to see it. He loves him some LSU this year.

The only thing I can see is that there was not a discernable difference between #2, #3 and #4 to justify a cutoff.

The outcome is without question. The only question is the margin and whether it's the biggest landslide ever.

The fact that there are three others invited make me more confident that Joe is setting the record for margin of victory.

Chris Fowler is hosting the show and posted an Instagram video this weekend saying he’s not supposed to say who he thinks will because he’s the host then followed that by saying something like “but let’s be realistic, Joe Burrow is going to win the Heisman”

They stop inviting people where there is a natural “break” in the vote totals. It just means that there was no significant difference between the cluster of Fields, Hurts and Young.

Desmond has been all LSU, but let’s be honest. He’s a Michigan guy so he’s doing a little passive aggressive tweaking of tOSU

They have 4 because Young is a defensive player. Otherwise they only take 3.

It works differently than you are thinking - below is from the Heisman website.

This is one of the most misunderstood parts of the Heisman process. You will often hear media or fans complain that a certain player was snubbed by not being invited to the Heisman ceremony. But the finalists are not determined arbitrarily. Starting from the understanding that there will always be a minimum of three finalists, whether or not more will be invited is determined by how close the fourth-place finisher’s point total is to that of the third place finisher’s, how close the fifth-place finisher’s is to that of the fourth-place finisher’s and so on.

In the 2008 Heisman vote, for instance, Florida’s Tim Tebow finsihed third with 1,575 points. The fourth-place finisher, Graham Harrell of Texas Tech, totaled 213 points. Because of the huge gap between those totals, Harrell was not invited to the ceremony, which featured just three finalists. In 2010, Kellen Moore’s fourth place finish of 635 points brought him much closer to LaMichael James’ third-place finish of 916, so Moore was included as one of the four finalists. The fifth-place finisher in 2010, Justin Blackmon of Oklahoma State, had just 105 points. There was a clear demarcation of support between him and Moore, so the finalists were capped at four.

In other words, the closeness of the point totals determines the final number of finalists. Where major gaps exist, that’s where you get a cutoff.

This is all correct. Go look at the Heisman home page. Their rules are very clear. I looked at them last week.

because it’s an honor just to be invited to this thing.
and if you’re close enough in votes to the rest of the pack (not necessarily the leader), you deserve that honor.

Some people voted early. Some vote with an agenda. And some vote to get more than one person there in this case.
