What position does this guy practice at, seems like at his size and all the other talent coming in OC might be best fit for him..... Saw Heard listed at 6'6 335, if so ya gotta think he gets snaps from week one and is starting at RG or RT by week 4 or so right?

It could happen, but it won’t be because of his height and weight. We have backups who are about the same size. The following guys will start if healthy:

Garrett Dellinger
Will Campbell
Emory Jones
Miles Frazier

Turner seems like a near certainty at center, so I don’t see Heard starting unless there is an injury or he is the second coming of Anthony Munoz.

I called the great offensive line we had in 2019. During the run-up to that season I posted often that our line was going to be a strength, because the 2018 line, disparaged a lot on here, was actually very good. This line looks better.

Heard will start games at either tackle or guard at some point this year. He’s that good.

My point wasn't that he'd start BECAUSE of his weight, rather, if he already matured that much he's physically ready, that paired with his talent gets him on the field. I'd think Delly could be unlucky guy or it could just be first injury, but I bet he rotates in from week 1-2

Hes going to beat out all sec campbell/ Jones, a 2 yr sec starter in dellinger, or a fr all American Frazier who found his way at rg in sec once the line got dellinger off center, and bumped Frazier inside? With an injury he absolutely will, whether in game or just game to game.

That's tough sledding for true fr to beat an entire returning line out. Im just thankful we have him, Martinez, Maryland ot, Chester, kimo as the immediate backups.

Might want to slow down with greatest Oline ever. They were good, but we have had some very good ones. Curious as to how long have you been following the tigers?

I agree that line was decent but Burrow won them that Moore award. Rewatch that Alabama and Auburn game. I don't know how Joe got rid of the ball they were on him like white on rice. Honestly we had some good ones: Ingram,Charles, Cush, Hines, Lewis, Decaculus but they were always switching them around and with the Charles suspension it was a revolving door.

That could be, but it is not germane. All of the starters I listed will not remain injury free all season. Plus, I remember another lineman who came here much ballyhooed and was certain to start game one of his freshman year. He was a game changer. His name was Kardell Thomas. You used to call him “Pancake”.

Since the 70’s. And we have NEVER had an oline that was 70% as good as the 2019 oline. Show me an oline that had three day one starters in the NFL the very next season and a day one starter in the NFL two years later. Show me a line that had six guys on NFL rosters four years later, not including underclassmen who weren’t ready to play. That’s the null set!

We’ve had lines with two NFL players and three other guys who were okay. Maybe we had one sometime that had three NFL guys and two also-rans. But that 2019 team had five starters who were mature NFL guys, plus a sixth guy who was a borderline NFL guy.

The best line at lsu was 2003. Whitworth, Peterman, Niswanger, Livings, and Wilkerson. All played in the NFL too

Wow so many holes to poke here.
First of all Thomas stood at a whopping 6’2.5 and weighed 350 plus. So lacks the size of Heard and came in overweight. Whereas Heard looks to be at the proper weight already.

Thomas also played for a 1a school. So the question of competition was there. Heard played at the 4A level so lacks the question of competition.

Lastly, Thomas had a bad ankle injury which doesn’t bode well for any position in football. Lineman is the worst that could happen to. Especially one who is overweight. For all we know that could’ve been what ruined his career.

All this is to say there were way more questions when Thomas came in as opposed to Heard. So that’s a terrible take and comp.

Honestly we had some good ones:

The 87 team had 2 AA in Albergamo and Andelsek. Ronnie Davidson and Ralph Norwood were pretty badass as well.

The 2003 OL is the best starting 5 LSU has ever had. All 5 guys played in the NFL

'24 will be better. Jones, Whitworth, Heard all can be 1sts. Frazier will be a top 3, Chester could be the Center by that time and he will be drafted in

I hope this line is better that the 2019 line. It was the weak point of that offense.

Go back and watch what Burrow had to do to either not get killed and/or keep the play alive. They continually struggled with holding blocks - Brady was brilliant calling plays that minimized exposing them.
