That's solid post and encompasses my thoughts as well. There will be spin on anything, but Mulkey was there for 21 years, brought them 3 NCs, raised her kids there. It's so distasteful to try to nail the narrative that "we were ready to move on anyway" bullshite.

frick them. LSU welcomes Kim and appreciates her.

BeYou - you have no idea what you are writing about. You were not there for a first hand account of the meeting. You are merely repeating fabricated stories from a Baylor sports board. In my initial post, I told the true and correct story. Ask anyone in Waco if I would be the one to know these facts and 90% will tell you that I am the person most likely to have knowledge about these facts.

It has been known for some time that most loyal Lady Bear backers wanted Kim's name on the Court. That was true. However, at no time during the meeting with the AD did Kim demand that her name be put on the new basketball court.

I am not sure of your agenda, but I know all of the parties involved and what you wrote, and are writing, is simply false. Repeating fabricated rumors does nothing for Baylor or LSU. I am truly sorry that Baylor lost a great coach and, at the same time, I am very excited that LSU is getting one of the top WBB coaches of all-time.

I choose to believe you over BeYou.

For one, I just can't see someone like Kim Mulkey demanding her name be put on a court. That seems ridiculous and speculative.

Does anybody really care?

LSU is paying 3M a year to coach a sport that doesn't even sell enough tickets to cover that expense.

What the hell, I guess you want to keep paying exorbitant fees for football tickets to pay for this shite. Oh, and now they can no longer sell those out.

Whose running this shite show.

Well BeYou has only referenced having an office on Baylor’s campus. There’s a shite ton of offices on that campus filled with people that have no clue what really happened.

Waco Tiger is referencing folks directly involved with the discussions and decisions that took place. BeYou comes across as a poser. Waco comes across as legit.

There is a poster on the Baylor 247 board that broke this down. Its a pay site so I will post cliffs.

1.) Kim never demanded the arena be put where she wanted or naming the court after her.

2.) Baylor is in financial turmoil at the moment both on the Academic and athletic side of the house. According to the poster they have been robbing peter to pay Paul.

3.) the current AD doesn't like Kim or women's sports in general because they loose money.

4.) Kim went to the AD last Wednesday and told him LSU had offered her the job and he basically told her "good luck at LSU". She felt like it was a slap in the face and her decision was made after the meeting.

Looks like most of her staff and operations team are going to be coming with her to BR.

I am a member of the paid site and the poster you cliff’d below sounds like a rare, sane example of that board. I especially like the story of how she dog cussed the AD out then raced across the campus to demand the president meet her demands immediately but was blown off by her, as well.

They seem to be convinced their MBB program will be elite for years to come so Mulkey and WBB is no longer needed on campus.

Will do. I will copy Mack and Linda on the email so they will be aware of what you are writing on an LSU fan bulletin board. I am sure they will be impressed.

Might as well cc Kyle Armstrong and Doug Welch. Still waiting on that email.

Still waiting on the email btw.

You two should just do it right and meet at Sonic.

Good point. I'm fine with that - preferably during happy hour though.

quote:

I’m not sure how those two correlate, but it’s interesting if true. I lost the station before I could get his explanation on that.

The theory is that the Mens BBALL championship took the spotlight away from the Womens BBALL team. I mean partially true but let's be honest - the spotlight is not big on Womens basketball in general. Kim didn't feel appreciated before the Men won it all and it didn't get any better afterwards. I don't really buy into it though because it wasn't this way when we had a good football record.

quote:

I fully believe she wanted a voice and earned it.

She's had a voice. It's been the biggest voice in the athletic department for a long time - deservedly so the Womens BBALL team was the only thing going for this school in the early 2000's. When the rest of the sports programs started to catch up - her voice began to drown out.

quote:

I believe the arena location was something promised by the previous AD.

Ian McCaw resigned 5 years ago - well before any serious discussion of the new arena began. A donor gave $100M two years ago and the donor wants it "downtown" waco - which is less than 2 miles away from the current arena. The school is going to honor the donors request. Not to mention the City of Waco is chipping in $60M if the arena is in "downtown" Waco. Additionally, a $200M+ capital expenditure is going to need the approval of the university president and Board as to the location of the arena. It's not even a promise an AD can fulfill.

quote:

I’ve no doubt she is abrasive and can be considered “difficult” but what highly successful coach isn’t?

Agree. It's just a matter of time though before it sours a relationship. In this case - 20 years.

quote:

almost like there’s a script followed by all those posters mentioning the same rumors then pointing out how their WBB program lost 6M a year.

This is FARRRR more than what most Women programs lose each year. No doubt - women sport programs lose money but the amount of $6M significantly more than most.

quote:

And the delusion that their facilities and monetary investment will make her replaceable is astounding.

Mulkey is irreplaceable. Great coaches are irreplaceable even more so in Womens CBB.

quote:

For one, I just can't see someone like Kim Mulkey demanding her name be put on a court. That seems ridiculous and speculative.

Lol. Then why was Kramer and her family publicly tweeting that the school should put her name on the court after the last National Championship. This is literally the worst kept secret in Waco. It's something she's wanted from a long time. Kim is fiercely loyal - something I highly respected form her and still do. She stood up for Baylor multiple times over the past 20 years. In return, Kim expects loyalty back. It's why she had a contract of $2.5M a year well into 2030.

quote:

Waco Tiger is referencing folks directly involved with the discussions and decisions that took place. BeYou comes across as a poser. Waco comes across as legit.

You don't have to believe me - that's fine. I have talked directly to people in the Athletic Department about this case. Now do you suddenly believe me?

Or maybe I work for Baylor Athletic department and grew up in LA - hence my presence on this board for almost 9 years. ;). I guess we will never know.....

I'm going to reiterate this once again especially for posters like LSUGrrrl - I truly wish Kim well at LSU. I hope she wins and that she wins a lot. I think she is one of the greatest coaches of all time and truly deserves her spot in the HOF. The narrative that she wanted to return home is a way for both Kim and Baylor to save face over how all of this really went down.
