Kiffin spoke on Leavitt without naming him tonight

Several of the technical/tactical hawks on the board pointed out footwork, mechanics, and decisions from the QB as being terrible last weekend.
Kiffin directly referenced recognizing and climbing the pocket, setting feet to step into throws, and making the right pass off of the RPOs designed to compliment our offensive scheme.
It’s good to know that Kiffin is pointing out the simple things. That usually means that the great things are only a half-step away, but it also signals that the improvements need to happen quickly.
The fans know that it isn’t simply Leavitt being a terrible QB.
The head coach mentioning skills that need to improve for certain positions adds an extra dimension of accountability to the fans on the players’ end. You’re not just representing yourself at this program. You’re representing your teammates, friends, family, and the state of Louisiana. They want to cheer you on. They recognize how simple the improvements can be.
It takes action to be accountable for your performances, so improve yourself and represent them well!
I’m stoked for this weekend. It finally feels like there is a competent captain at the wheel of the ship. I don’t think he is the kind to pull the plug too early, nor too late. I think the passing game shines this weekend.
That said, if it continues to be bad in the passing game we may see a back-up way sooner than we expected coming into the year.

Wild this is such an issue going into week 4. This is stuff I feel like he couldn’t work because he was recovering. Or maybe he just reverts to, as Jordan Rodgers put it, “backyard football” naturally throughout the game. But this is true freshman shite tbh. Can’t do that here playing against these monster Dlineman and speedy linebackers.

I think we're a lot further away from a QB change than some of you think.
Are we convinced after 3 games that Leavitt is incapable of progressing under Lane?

I’m not optimistic for Leavitt for this year and I’m not sure what that means for the future at QB.
I think his problems are fixable and that recovery from last year’s injury cost him a lot of development time toward those fixes, so there’s potential to see a big leap.
However:
1. He’s in year 4 of 5 already. Some of those fixes are things you’d expect not to need fixing this late in the game. And the payoff for investing in those fixes is that maybe you get one great season next year.
2. If the fix involves an offseason, we’re writing off a lot to wait until then.
3. It can’t be good for keeping the other 2 QBs around to shrug and say “well we think he can figure it out next offseason, so let’s keep playing him to build continuity and confidence instead of seeing what we’ve got.”
Hopefully the premise is just wrong and he figures it out midseason. But I think you diagnosed it right, it’s stuff like footwork and throwing mechanics and not seeing the field that typically don’t get fixed quick. And the obvious culprit is that he developed rough habits in a minor league where his athleticism could hard carry him, and then he missed an offseason under Lane to correct those habits due to recovery from serious injury. None of that suggests a turnaround is right around the corner.
