Skip Bertman Baseball Camp class of 1987. Stayed 4 or 5 days overnight I can’t remember but man what a great time it was. I was like a freshman in High School but stayed in the Dorms on LSU campus and got to eat in the cafeteria also. Seeing those college girls around campus and riding that hot arse white bus from Alex Box to the dorms are memories I will never forget. To this day I remember gun n roses “Sweet Child O' Mine” jamming on the white bus as we cruised by to the dorms. Sucks kids don’t get to experience any longer.
Eta: listening to sweet child O' mine right now man the memories

Boots!! what a riot. I was there for what had to be one of the first years. probably 84 or 85. he went off one day about the jackass kids who wore their hats cocked back on their head which I guess was kind of the trend at the time along with popped polo collars. TWO FINGERS! THATS ALL YOU GET! one finger between the eyebrows and one more on top of that and pull your hat down to that level and don’t let it come up.
I remember bc he called me out for having it correct as an example. What’s your name son!?? I told him. His answer was “I coached your dad in HS! good man. No wonder.”
also remember Smoke showing me one little trick about hitting that stuck with me thru HS and I shared with every single guy I played with.
And Skip’s smoke breaks… lol!!

I was there same timeframe. Went multiple years and would guess my last year was 86ish. Don’t remember many details but do remember instructors. Darryl Hamilton and Morris Bonadonna (sp?) come to mind.

We had Beetle Bailey and the Player/Coach we had for our group was Mike Bianco he was a short little stout guy and he was a cocky mofo too. Some things never change

Boots Garland was 6’0 tall.
But 6’2 when he stood on his wallet.

I learned one too. Cut a broom stick in half then put some bike handle grips on one end(keep knuckles line up on bat) and the other end foam wrapped with duct tape( barrel the ball up). Used that stick drill all through high school and showed every team I ever played on or coached on(kid's teams). Old school baby

Same here. Went a few years and never knew this was a thing, we lived fairly close though. Knowing this now based on what OP said, def a missed opportunity lol

so maybe they had some accommodations for the kids that came from further away, idk.
There were kids from Texas and Oklahoma when I was there

Bro it’s 2025. Kids out of sight of parents is asking for lawsuits and pain.

Too much liability these days
So that’s not the reason. Overnight camps are still really common. Just picked up one of mine from one

This stopped around 3 years ago. It’s fairly new
Was about to say my daughter did an overnight cheer camp a few years ago. They stayed at Laville Dorm.
But it was about 5 yrs ago.

LSU still does multiple overnight sports camps. Jay Johnson chose to end it for baseball.

I can say this, the website/portal to sign kids up is abysmal.

In the early 90's they used to put us up in the Hilton then they finally moved us on campus by 1995 or so.
I was there in 90 & 91. Both times we stayed in Kirby Smith

My daughter is going to soccer camp at lsu this week. There’s an overnight option for them

Same year, different week (or age group)? I would’ve been 12 in 1992.
