Well he is. Taught at Ole Miss and several of my friends had him and said he was their favorite teacher ever.

Sorry to be a jackass, I get the point, just mad I'm still at work and wanted to piss in someone's cheerios

It's not like Stud was doing a great job with these guys in the first place. I know he would probably fair better getting a shot at a smaller school first and established some clout after 3 years, but I really think he can at least keep the status quo and then you have a guy who has been to the pro bowl 8 years and dominated for decades teaching you. That has to get 5 star OOS recruits to take a real hard look at us.

This hire is one that might not really show it's fruit til 3 years down the road, but I think we can get some really great 5 star line talent if he rights the offensive line ship in short order.

Mawae, by all indications, should be a great coach.

Many on here crying that he may not be a good coach, bla bla bla. He has coached, and it is easy enough for Cam or Les to call the guys he coached for and see how he did.

The guy is a hall of fame coach that we are talking about coming in to coach his position. There is every likely hood that he will be a very good position coach. While it takes much more to be a coordinator or head coach, and he may not have what it takes for those positions, it is doubtful that someone with his resume that wants to teach/coach will not have the skills to pass that knowledge along.

I just don't like the logic that because he was a great NFL player then he will automatically be a great coach
I get that. There is a long list of great players who were not great "head" coaches, but I don't think there are many former players who were not qualified to coach the position they played. I think what separates KM is what he also did off the field, such as being president of the NFLPA. I get the impression that KM was a student of the game and did not just rely on athletic ability alone. It is those type of things that make great players good coaches.

Someone earlier mentioned Willie Roaf, based on his career as a player he is certainly qualified, but I don't think he has the intangibles of KM.

I am not confident in my abilities to evaluate coaching talent; however, read up on Mawae's resume and it's hard not to get excited about the possibilities.

LSU - played Tackle, Guard, and Center
NFL - played Guard and Center
8 time pro-bowler
president of NFLPA - that's respect right there

He knows every aspect of good offensive line play, knows how to make alignments against defensive fronts (he's a center for crying out loud), and appears that he's got the motor and "want" to be a good coach (worked with the Bills according the link in this thread).

I also think that if he can meander the politics of the NFLPA, he can recruit. Just walking into a room and telling stories about his days with the Jets, Seahawks, and Titans will get their attention.

My gut tells me Mawae (with pointers from Miles if necessary) could be a fantastic hire. I think Cam and Les will interview him, perform their due diligence and assess if he can translate his skills into actual coaching.

Based on the wording it doesn't seem LSU initiated contact. I'm not even sure Miles/Cam are that interested but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Well I can tell you this. I would have a state championship ring had Kevin Mawae been my offensive line coach. Book it

Bumpkin hyperbole at its fibest. So you know, with certainty, the unknown? Im gonna call bullshite on that. And "book it"? You want me to book an uncertain event from the PAST? Please wake up

True but the article does say that he and Cam have texted each other. I'm thinking if he got a negative response from Cam then he wouldn't bother saying he wants to interview.

No one us crying...just interjecting due to all of the jackasses who are certain that he'll be a slam dunk hire. People are dumb and sometimes wiser people step in to help them with their baby steps. Get it?

Now let me help you. Read the posts above the one I am quoting from. See his resume? See that he is looking to coach his position with that resume?

He IS a slam dunk hire.

You are welcome.

Mike Vrabel, hired as new LB's coach for Texans. Amazing that he had zero coaching experience but coached DLine at Ohio state and now NFL lb's.

Mawae, should just not turn in his resume.

if kevin really wants to be a position coach at LSU and wants to put in the time... it would be a good hire.
