The Curly Hallman years brought cheap season tickets and my folks have had them since. :GEAUX:

Only positive was that I was one of the first TAF members and was able to advance to some incredible seating upgrades. Lots of people were bailing.

Same here.. it’s the reason we have tickets today for the Tiger Den and parking passes right next to the stadium.. Loyalty does pay off eventually.

My uncles got some during that era as well. Most got rid of them as they got older and their kids graduated. One may still have them but now with every game on tv which wasn’t the case back then it’s not worth to them anymore.

I’d like to know what Curley said in the interview that blew dean away other than the low sticker price of ~$85k a year ($250k-$300k in 2019). For perspective, that was around the time Aggie threw the bank at Jackie Sherrill if I’m not mistaken.

It was around the time the USFL was failing and college football was becoming what it is today.

Yea, I played for a HS coach like that. Some players respond to that positively, some don't. One thig I will always remember John Wooden saying, players are different and you can't coach them the same. This is something coaches should learn, psychology.

Imagine how good Mawae would have been without that coaching in college. Probably would be in the HOF

One of the many times Bama has screwed us over the years. If Curly and Southern Miss don’t beat Bama in Birmingham in ‘90...no way we hire that idiot.

I never had the chance to meet Kevin but I have spent some time around most of his Tiger OL teammates and have known one most of my life. The thing is you won't really hear them say anything openly negative about Curly. It is kind of a code not to talk bad about former coaches or teammates. But as you hear them talk and tell stories about them days it isn't hard to figure out how they feel about him.

Another poster pointed out,,,

Vince Dooley was an Auburn grad who coached for a rival, Georgia. Pat Dye was a Georgia Grad who coached at rival, Auburn. Darrel Royal played at OU and coached Texas

These fit your criteria EXACTLY. Two of them won national championships. One was a top 5 coach OF ALL TIME. Just admit you were wrong, or just stop.

USM beat Bama and Auburn. And probably should have beaten UGA in 1990.

Ask them about Buddy King.........you’ll get a pretty visceral response.

But, you are kind of correct. Most wont really get into Curley bashing with non-teammates. However, when the discussion is a closed group, he’s not remembered fondly;)

If we all believe this, from a Hall of Famer, why don't we demand this of our youth coaches, who regularly cuss and degrade kids 6,7,8, years old and drive them from the sport.

CH was a loser who badmouthed his players to everyone.
Should have been fired after 1st year.

He even had a losing record as a small town HS coach

I want you to imagine what it must have been like. The best player (by far) on the worst (by far) teams in LSU history.

You're a winner - you don't know anything else. You're an Army brat and you are recruited by your adopted home state's flagship school. After a few down years, that school is on the uptick. A young, vibrant, energetic head coach is at the helm and despite some OOC downturns, during your senior year, you watch the home crowd of this school generate a literal earthquake during the most pivotal game of the season, ultimately sharing a conference title and signaling that this is the place you ought to be.

Then you join the team, redshirt and they start losing. You play tackle, guard and center - whatever it takes to win, and they lose. By your redshirt sophomore season, they've replaced young, energetic, probably promoted too soon head coach, with an abject loser for no damned good reason.

And, you keep losing.

Yeah, baws, that would piss me off something fierce.

I remember clearly watching the last game of that, the 1993 embarrassment against Arkansas in Tiger Stadium. How Curley wasn't fired after that game, I have no idea. We'd already had the 10/9/93 (Never Forget!) earlier and a little 3-game winning streak (mainly beating Bama a year removed from an undefeated MNC season) saved him, I guess.

I recall watching Mawae go into the locker room for the last time (that loss eliminated any bowl chances we might have held out for) and I said, "Whatever else he is, that kid isn't a loser."

So glad his pro career turned out great for him. I only really have 2 player-connected pieces of LSU memorabilia - a Billy Cannon autograph and a Mawae practice jersey I got in 1994, probably before the draft.

You can get his biography at the Wal-Mart bargain bin for 99 cents. It's called, "Still losin'".

Hallman consistently cheats at solitaire and still loses.

He hasn't driven in decades because he is always losing his keys.

He's such a loser, the Washington Generals wouldn't take him.
