Maybe because a lot of football positions require quick thinking and intelligence, not just physical talent?
Or that teams with players with good character, work ethic, and ability to learn perform better and have better chemistry?

This is roughly 90% of recruiting, but they 100% account for character and work ethic, which are supplemented with good grades.

I’d love to get a great corner. Aside from that, and assuming Smith and Wingo return, we don’t need anything.
We would have a solid defensive line with Smith and Wingo being an elite inside pair and with Washington and Guillory backing them up. Our returning DEs are solid, and Womack gives us a very good edge rusher. Womack needs to develop the strength and toughness to be an every down player.
Our linebackers are as good as I can remember. Perkins will be elite, little Weeks will be very good, and Penn is a returning NFL ready linebacker (I know that’s a minority opinion on here, but it is a correct one).
Our safeties will be very good with Toviano, Yaites, Burns and Sam. Our corners will be solid, but not spectacular, with Zy, Stamps, JK Johnson, Hughes, and Sage Ryan.
This is a good defense now that these guys have experience. The Rant consistently fails to take into account that folks get better as they get experience.

No guarantee both smith and Wingo return. We’re in trouble if they don’t.
Sam is out of eligibility I believe. Burns is who he is, and he’s terrible in coverage.
We have some holes on defense for sure. You just have to hope someone steps up to fill them.

There will be a whole new set of players entering the portal in April after spring workouts. That’s the purpose of the second portal window.
