I’ve been very impressed with the job kelly has done retaining a lot of juniors and hitting the portal hard. This is the way to ensure your team stays competitive in a year like this. I hope that he hits the portal this hard every single year. The portal has become almost as important as your recruiting class in today’s game.

What’s made this even more impressive is that it’s gotten done in so little time. Seems like players see that Kelly intends on building a winning culture and they want to come play for that.

He clearly has a plan in place and has executed it.

Last I checked, lsu is number one in portal transfers. It may not stay that way, but that’s damn impressive for a new coach.

IMO, unless they change the rules the Portal is now MORE important than the HS recruiting.

Don't get me wrong, you still need to sign 15-20 good HS players but we should also be looking to add 5-10 good transfers every year as well.

Hear me out: A kid out of HS can get mad that he isn't starting right away or maybe he doesn't like a coach or any other reason that might aggravate a player and he can transfer without a thought about it. The transfer, on the other hand, has used his one free transfer so he is more or less stuck with your program for the rest of his eligibility.

You also have a better idea of what a transfer brings to the table as opposed to a HS player.

I think going forward, We will sign 15-20 guys out of HS, 5-10 will transfer out within 2 years and get replaced by incoming transfers.

This is the take LSU fans want, but until we stop seeing the best proven position players in college running off to Saban for a ring, the portal will remain cancerous to college football.

He is working his arse off. It’s crazy that we had to get this many transfers with the lack of commitments and frauds leaving the program. Glad he’s bringing in players that want to wear purple and gold and play for LSU!

I assume you are speaking of Ricks and I think he is a unique case. We are in a coaching change, he never seemed to really like it here, and we have sucked both years he was here. I don't think you will see all that many established starters at good programs leave too much in the future.

Think about the risk these dudes are taking: They are already established starters at the P5 level and in this hypothetical they have played well enough to garner a look from Bama. If they go to Bama and lose out to one of the multiple 5 stars they have at every position then they are stuck and have to sit out a year if they try to transfer again.

Again, I am not saying that Bama won't get a few good transfers every year but with how well they recruit, I don't think they will get more than a couple each year.

And if they do go after more than a couple, a decent number of the 5 stars that they sign out of HS will transfer out and we will have a shot at those guys.

I like that there’s a strategy. He doesn’t disclose much but then he’ll do things that will make sense. Sound governance

Do I like what the portal has created? No. But at this point if you aren’t supporting taking advantage of it then you are a fool

We have to take advantage of what's available. Same kinda way A&M is using their money while they can, we need to be busting portal while we can.

EDIT: Whoops, preaching to the Choir.

Yeah the rules are the rules. The key to success is finding the way to take advantage of those rules.

Bama's last title was the *covid year and they were basically the only team that stayed intact that year...even though they made it to the title game look at this past season Bama could have and should have had 5 losses during the regular season with all that talent...its not going to be easy for them any longer like years past and all these players flocking their thinking they are going to get a ring are going to learn the hard way...

Whoever would downvote something like this it's just being dumb. Showing no support whatsoever for your University. Just stay off the rant.
