Keep Hess as closer. Hope Walker is healthy. Gilbert. And a new arm rounds the rotation.

Hess is too electric to transition to a full time starter. His stuff translates better to the 9th where he can throw 97 instead of 91, 92 all game. Hope Walker is healthy. Gilbert will be great. And LSU always brings in a new unexpected starter every season. Don't see why next season would be any different. If you have a guy that can smash the 9th the next two seasons you've got something cooking.

This is the big thing... If he doesn't need TJ surgery now, I bet he shuts it down for the summer.

If Walker is injured you may be forced to move Hess. If Walker is healthy Hess should be the closer.

We need two more starters to go with Walker and Gilbert. Is the kid from New York a power pitchers or junk pitcher?? Hopefully Bush, Peterson develop more as mid relievers.

Louis Coleman more valuable as a starter or reliever?

Hess has never proven that he can be a starter. I'm sure he'll be given a chance next year, but Walker & Gilbert have proven they can be legit starters.

At the least...we know we have 2 legit starters(assuming Walker is healthy in 2018) & a legit closer. Peterson, Bush, Beck, & Bain are good options for middle relief.

Hopefully we can find 2 or 3 legit guys from the incoming class.

Hess wins you more games as a Friday night guy than he does as a closer. You have some freshman arms that can possibly close. If a freshman steps up and is ready to start then move Gilbert to closer.

I mean, he was effective in most of the midweek games he started this year.

He can definitely do it.

I thought he was decent in those games. He seems to pitch much better out of the pen.

That being said...I hope he can lock down a starter job. He has the best stuff on the team.

Hess, Walker, & Gilbert are damn good options to have returning. I was scared shitless going into this year. I thought we were screwed after Lange & Poche left.

my roommate, a small college baseball pitching coach, just told me that on a scale of 1-10 his concern of Walker needing TJ is an 8

Based on what? Just knowing that he had forearm soreness?

Starter. But LSU didn't have enough starting arms to keep Coleman as a reliever. LSU has starters for days under Dunn and a weak bullpen. Hess helps solidify that.

Peterson and Beck will be starters one day IMHO and so will Bush.
