Not saying that he will be a starter or closer in the bigs but it's not often that you see relief pitchers drafted out of college in the first round. He may very well end up being a closer in the league but I'd bet just about anything that he is starting for us next year.

I think Frederick may get processed.

I wouldn't complain. He's the only guy of the bunch that I don't see potential in.

I was responding to Hess moving to a starter role because "that's where the money is" response. I completely agree that had nothing to do with it when you don't read it on context

So does anyone know about Stortz? Video I saw of him he reminded me of Lange. (His physical appearance and arm motion); however- looked like he was also a very good fielder and one hell of a bat. Could this guy be a dual threat guy? Play field on days he does not pitch?

He definitely has the stuff to be our #3 starter or closer. I wouldn't be surprised if he was also our starter at 1B. Hopefully it works out for him next year.

We have 9 total(7 Freshman & 2 JUCO's) incoming pitchers next year. We should be able to find a few legit arms out of the bunch.

Man, glad to hear that. I knew we had lost several good ones to the draft.. I was thinking tonight that LSU being blue blood of the sport- makes me wonder why we don't have Oregon state or Florida type depth. We always have one stud it seems, but last decade or so we not had three or four or even five of these types. Would seem that they would flock to Lsu. Like Kentucky in basketball. Get all of the best of the best. Just very curious.

Your comment still makes no sense. He said Hess being a starter would help his draft stock. I'm not sure what Lange being a bullpen guy in the pros has to do with that.

He's young and will settle down. We're losing two very good starters. Tbh we need Hess to make the move. With his slider a fastball n the low 9o's is fine. Exactly what we need. Look st UF starting pitching coming back. U gotta have that. We need 3 starters with live arms. If Hess can throw 95 for 2-3 innings after pitching almost daily he can throw once every 4-5 days for 6-7 at 92/93. If he can learn to start with walker and the lineup we have coming back we may get back to the CWS.

Hess will be the Friday night guy bc that is where the money is made coming out of college and into the draft. He will be a draft eligible sophomore and when they get his stamina up will be dominant in that role.

I read it as Hess would just move to Friday night because that's where the money is. I provided an example of a proven starter being looked at as a closer, backing up my theory that's it's pretty hard to get drafted as a starter. I believe Hess has a future as a closer.

We should be ok. Just for reference...we had 8 new pitchers for us this year.

Hess
Walker
Peterson
Beck
Reese
Frederick
Bush(redshirted his 1st year)
Kiel(JUCO)

We got good production from 5 of them. Reese is still a question mark, but has potential going forward. Frederick & Kiel are the only 2 that didn't pan out at all. We should be ok with the addition of the incoming guys.

Read better... the best way to show his capabilities is to be the #1 Friday night starter on a premier baseball team. Deciding whether to move him to the closing role in the league is a decision for the big bucks.... on top of that he will benefit our team better in going out there and shutting people down every Friday for 7, 8 maybe even 9 innings.

I'm not taking anything from the role of a closer but tell me the last time we weren't able to find someone on our talented pitching staff to fill that role. People have short memories but even Newman was highly effective for almost 2 years. Hess is a special talent and blood bank guarantee he is the guy next year

Matty Ott. Dominant closer forced into a starting role. Bad mistake.

I just don't think you go from being a 1 to 2 inning guy to a starter expected to go 6 - 7 innings. Dominant closers I would think usually end up being mediocre starters. If we don't have any pitching next year then Hess might get a chance. I think Maneiri stays with closer

LSU will be fine. Hell we'd probably be top 8 next season if Enlow had come, but there looks like some solid arms coming in.

i think hitting will be very good. a lot of young guys got fantastic experience. defense is always elite under maineri. hopefully we just have more pitching depth next season

He got rocked. Never started again. That's my point. You just can't throw a guy into a Friday night role expecting him to be as good as he was as a closer
