I was young and all I remembered was winning and the joy that came from it. I always remembered the JV run at the beginning of the game, the Spears pick 6 (our season tix were right by the players family section and his mom sat next to us almost every game that year) and Donnie Jones punt ending it but I didnt realize how many mistakes we made and the amount of opportunities we squandered. Had a punt blocked that set up their first TD, turned the ball over inside the 10 multiple times and another inside the redzone, and threw another pick they got a huge return on to set up their other TD. I know we won so no one really cares how it looked but the Tigers should've won that game by at least 3 TDs.

One of the most underrated Dlines in SEC history. Four 295+ pound monsters who could all stop the run and rush the QB. Marcus Spears, Chad Lavalais, Kyle Williams and the late great Marquise Hill. Never seen domination up front like those boys.

Lionel Turner sacking Jason White on 4th down to essentially end the game was another memorable play that sticks out

Oklahoma entered that game averaging 45.2 ppg, held to 14.

And if it wasn't for the Mauck interception run all the way back to the LSU 30, they would have been held to 7 points.

A first and goal at the 5 turned into 4th and 35 and ultimately resulted in 0 points for LSU.

The only disappointment from the game was the final score not indicative of the utter beat down we gave the Sooners that night.

I grew up going to games with my dad in the late 70’s 80’’s and 90’s. The 90’s were rough and those were the years I remembered most because I was getting closer to and in my 20’s.

I was out of state from the mid 90’s until 06. In 2003 my dad and brother flew to where I was living and we got an RV to go to the Arizona game in Tucson. It had been several years since I saw LSU play in person and most of the more recent time’s we just were not good.

I remember leaving that game thinking and saying to my dad, I know I’ve never seen an LSU national championship team, and I have no idea of this is one either , but damn we’re they huge AND fast everywhere.

I tell me son now that watching that defense, if a team ran for 2-3 yards, you were wondering what the hell went wrong (a tad dramatic), but that defense was really incredible to watch minus 1 Chris Leak led UF game with Jack Hunt out.

That was one of those games that we were in control but mistakes kept them in the game. I was a nervous wreck! 07 and 19 were calm by comparison.

They haven't changed much. Still all offense and little defense.

Oklahoma had the #1 ranked defense going into that game.

That OU team was actually good on defense. Not all time great like LSU's, but near the top of the rankings in the country.

That said, it's crazy that we not only held em to just 14 points, but just 154 yards as well.

I was in Afghanistan. I was listening to it on AFN. That DL was the best one LSU has fielded.

I rewatched that game recently, and the offenses looked absolutely plodding compared to today’s offenses.

Yea, I forgot how bad Mauck was on a few of those turnovers...In my mind we dominated a lot more than we actually did after I rewatched it...

It was an ugly game played by LSU with tons of mistakes. I hate watching it. We should have won the game going away but held on by our bare knuckles to win.

I still remember the douchey reply from Stoops at halftime when the reporter asked him what it was like going against the #1 defense, "they're the #1 SCORING defense, we're the #1 defense"

As the 3rd quarter ended, I remember thinking if we can just avoid catastrophe, this game is over. First play of 4th,interception. And if it would have JUST been an int, no biggie, but the bastard returned it 50 yards...might as well have been a pick 6.

From there on, it was sweat city. From the 4 min mark of the 3rd quarter, we did not get a first down the rest of the game.
