I don’t care what ND did this year. BK finished unranked in Year 3 and that’s all I look at

Trailing by multiple possessions isn’t especially close.
ND trailed by 8 points with a minute left. That's a single possession.

close game

Lol. No one besides a casual football fan thought that was close. 31-7 well into the 3rd. It was over. OSU could have scored 60. Everything else was entertainment for fans like you.

I'm sure ND will hang a banner for that.

Until his contract was renegotiated a few weeks ago, Freeman was paid 6.6 million a year, Kelley has ten years at 9.7 million.
I would say ND got a better deal.

That's a shame to be talking about coach Miles like that, but I can't disagree. That team there, I forget what year they won it, either 2006 or 2007, but that team was clearly the best team in the country that year. Flynn was the QB, I know that, but that team was loaded with talent, and lost 2 games to teams they should have destroyed in Kentucky and Arkansas. They lost both games in triple OT's, mainly because they had a doofus as the DC in clueless Bo Pelini. I said back then I didn't like his style of defense and got chewed out by people back then that thought he was a good DC back then because LSU had a top 10 defense that season. But as I said back then it was the talent that LSU always has from top recruiting classes that had them in the top 10, and not Pelini's slow to react and read defense. He dropped DL into pass coverage sometimes and never ever hardly blitzed. They were the first 2 loss team to ever win a NC until Ohio State finally took that embarrassment away from us last night. Thank you, Buckeyes!

but yeah, no way LSU should have lost those 2 games with all of the talent Miles had that year.

Sarcasm????? At least I hope it is, he was clearly talking about Coach O as the 2019 team is widely thought of as the GOAT, or at least one of the GOAT teams.

If not for bush pushing Leinart into the end zone Weis probably goes to the NC game vs TX in year 1. (Texas vs ND or penn state.) He was an awful head coach and should have stayed an OC. That first year would be a high point. He could sell ND to recruits and would toss his Super Bowl rings around to close deals.

Weis recruited well and ‘12 proves that… Weis and Polian were fixtures on Southern Cal HS sidelines for years. Since ND hired Kelly, and thru his time at LSU, I have never seen or heard Kelly was on a sideline.

Kelly’s first 8 ND seasons losses:
5, 5, 1, 4, 5, 3, 8, 3 . Also, his culture was very reclusive. He alienated former players. I’m not sure what access LSU legends are getting.
(Included in Kelly’s ND tenure are major NCAA violations. Those violations resulted in vacated wins and other penalties. Years later Kelly would be hit with NCAA recruiting violations resulting in more penalties).

His last 4 years were an excellent run and got him a massive contract. He lacks a major bowl win.

The issue I have with kelly has to do with his character. It began Day 1. I didn’t understand, and still don’t know, how a coach could leave an undefeated team heading to the Sugar Bowl in a few weeks… I have lots of examples, but another stood out and gained national attention. His unhinged behavior towards TJ Jones after a bad play, in the 2011 South Florida loss, was disgraceful and made national news. What many people don’t know is Jones dad played for ND and had passed away weeks before this unhinged incident. Kelly destroyed him.

PS ND has not lowered their academic standards for Freeman. NIL started 4 months before Kelly left. That’s a game changer and gives teams a tool to add experience and fill gaps. Time will tell if behemoth teams like ‘12 Alabama can be built again. The playing field has been significantly leveled through the portal and NIL. Plus, the 12 team playoff opens the door real wide…

LSU will always get phenomenal players. Can Kelly take advantage of that? Time will tell. Next year’s a big year for him to ramp up.

So you would rather an unproven coach that hasn’t beaten anyone of note to BK and his proven track record?

You are dumb.

Kelly has a track record of beating bad to mediocre competition. He does not have a proven record of winning big games against elite teams. That is a major concern. And he has had a very long time to get that done - at Cincy, at ND, and now at LSU. And not one major bowl win. His record against top 10 teams is abysmal. Most LSU fans laughed at him for that very reason while he was at ND.

Freeman won 2 major bowl games in 2 weeks. He's 39 years old. Kelly doesn't have 1 in over 30 years of being a HC.

If that doesn't concern you, I am not sure what would.

Having said that, we have had 2 coaches win titles in the last 20 years. And neither was a rocket scientist. But the one thing they did was develop hard-nosed physical, punch-you-in-the-mouth type teams. OSU and ND were very much like that. Kelly's teams are known to be soft. Unless he gets that straight, we won't sniff a title - especially when you have to win 3-4 games in a row against top 10 teams.

The top 25 is a joke. LSU deserves to be in the top 20. That's not good enough, but they had holes due to lack of investment. They invested this year, so I expect it to be much better next year.
