It's not hard to go 6-7 with the passes he was attempting plus a couple of good catches were made. Also, we don't know what audibles were called by JJ if any
Uhhh, Chicken is saying the play calling in the first half were all short passes. Trust me JJ wasn't calling his own plays, all audibles came from the sideline.

Alabama was just better than LSU all year.

I think that changes this year. McCarron may be for real (gotta say I have underestimated him) but I think Mett has a higher ceiling. If there is any bright spot that can come from a loss, I think maybe the staff has learned some things and will not repeat the same mistakes.

Via Rueben Randle the receivers were open. We did see a wide open Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. during the game that JJ simply couldn't get the ball to.

Please show me where I said that anyone was wide open or anything about Herbstreit.

This.
Also like to add that this is a great thread with actual discussion. Nice to finally see one.

I wish someone could watch and tell me if they saw the same thing out of Hurst, that I saw.
To call him a turnstile, is an insult to turnstiles.
Haven't re-watched but noticed the same ... he was particularly bad on Monday night. 2 false starts put us behind the sticks on first down and straight up didn't block the man in front of him on at least 1 or 2 other plays.

Honestly, I think the teams were equal, but the LSU game plan in the BCS game was awful. In order to loosen up that defense, LSU needed to go down field, and that was not even attempted until the second half. Instead of attempting some passes on first down, LSU was content to plow up the field with runs setting up long 2nd and 3rd down situations that the Bama D was able to exploit.

We were lucky to get out of there alive like we did.
Our first drive in the 2nd half had potential, especially if JJ gets the ball to Beckham at the right angle so he could make a play...everything could have changed

Yep, and LSU missed some decent opportunities to hit the pass downfield in the second half.
The first half was just boring, hate to say it.

quote:sorry, it was said by fastedLSU, who I rebutted and you then jumped in. There were no attempts to throw deep in the first half...as a matter of fact, there were no attempts to throw past 10 yards. Every pass attempt in the FIRST HALF was purposely a quick pass to a RB or WR. If there were players open in the first half, it didn't matter because the plays were not designed to throw to them.
Please show me where I said that anyone was wide open or anything about Herbstreit.

Other than the defense looking like they were giving it their all. I didn't really see anything else to write home about in that first half. It wasn't that it was boring. It was just bad, uninspired football.

McCarron played nearly flawless. He was able to escape pressure and make plays.
I still don't know how he got out of those so often.

I think another backbreaking play was in the second half, and it was a nonplay. Bama blitzed, JJ avoided it and was about to break a huge run up the middle, and it was whistled before finishing because Lsu had taken a timeout. That had to have been deflating some as well. Just bad timing and bad luck there.

Bama was begging us to pass deep on them and we didn't. Not a single pass was thrown beyond 10 yards. Repeat...not a single pass was thrown beyond 10 yards.
I haven't had the fortitude to watch it again, but I only recall three times the entire game when we threw the ball more than 10 yards. Once was a completion to OBJ, and another was when Landry was open on a play that could have been a touchdown if the ball was on target.
I think it's one od the things that most frustrated most of us: We never even took our shots. Receivers open, and we never threw the ball to them.

-no touch on his passes
-mishandled 2 snaps
-poor reads on the option
-biggest thing, absolutely ZERO leadership, ie clapping up the team, encouraging, pats on the butt, nothing. Just whining. Everyone is looking up to you. You cannot sit there and sulk.

And I think I remember another one like this. Except it was a play, not a nonplay. And instead of running for another 20+ yards, JJ flipped the ball to the Bama linebacker for an interception.
Then he publicly chastised Ware for it.

This one hurt bad....It would have been a first down at least...I think JJ fumbled the next snap and we had to punt.
