Just asking -if we scheduled a rent a win instead of USCW would be in playoff contention?

Absolutely. In the day and age of a twelve game playoff there’s no reason at all to schedule tough out of conference games. Especially in the SEC 10-2 and your in.
But wait… we go to Clemson next year to open the season hahahaa

It's even tougher when you're heavily reliant on the portal and have a lot of coaching turnover like LSU has under Kelly.

Even if lsu had beaten usc it wouldn’t help LSU profile with the way they lost to Bama especially late in season
The next three games won’t move the needle as much as the bama win would have

Before the beatdown this past Saturday I would have said YES in the belief that LSU could easily take the likes of Mormon, Methodist, Miami, Boyzee and Hut-2-3-4......now I'm not so sure.

As stated, LSU lost to the team in 16th place in the Big 10, beat the 11th team in the Big 10 at home in a "competitive" game (tied at halftime).
LSU threw a pick-6 against South Carolina with 6 minutes to go essentially ending the game. Fortunately, the refs called a penalty that LSU fans would have rioted over if the roles were reversed. LSU was also fortunate that USC's QB got hurt for the second half.
LSU beat an average Arkansas team on the road (yay us) comfortably.
LSU beat a good Ole Miss team at home. I'm not going to downplay this one, but Ole Miss did everything wrong in the first half to keep LSU in it.
LSU returned the favor to aTm by doing just about everything to keep them in the game, then just falling apart in the 2nd half.
I don't know who this team is, but I can convince myself they can go 3-0 just as easily as 0-3 to finish the season.

The USCw game was a must win if we were to lose 2 SEC games like usual, you're allowed 2 losses with a 12 team playoff and BK knew that.
That's why his little temper tantrum at the podium in Vegas was so dramatic. He knew we were screwed because you're not playing Ole Miss, at A&M, OK, Bama, at Arkansas, and at USCw and coming out without a couple of losses when better teams from previous years average a 6-2 SEC record.

Had nothing to do with Kelly. Game was scheduled in 2018
