He had LSU at #11 - sandwiched between Texas A&M (which feels like a slap in the face) and Tennessee. Other SEC programs projected ahead were UGA, Bama, Texas, and Oklahoma.

His reasoning? Transfer Portal use could be better and internal alignment isn’t there. I know all of the BK memes mention getting aligned, but does anyone have an idea of what he means?

Reading the tea leaves, it sounds like BK had some transfers he wanted to lock in and couldn’t get the NIL money to do so.

I think the take overall is being a bit of a prisoner of the moment. LSU didn’t have a great offseason in the portal…I think most here would agree. They did have a GREAT portal class in BK’s first season though - which included a Heisman winning QB and about a good a group of DBs as you can find in the portal. The presumed #1 receiver from this years team also came from that portal class.

What say you, do you think we can exceed those expectations in the next 3 years?

#11 is idiotic. We’re top 6-8

Being behind A&M, Notre Dame, OU, and even Michigan frankly is crazy to me. With 2025 and 2026 classes LSU on the surface is in line to be top 5 consistently. Pate has seemed to suggest a few times in the last year about issues with Kelly and LSU admin - maybe it's an NIL thing who knows. But 2025 and 2026 classes don't seem to suggest that.

Strongly disagree. Oklahoma location and NIL fund no way they are ahead. Same with Notre Dame and Michigan, along with having high academic standards will never pass a program of LSU’s caliber

Correct.
With what he is saying does make sense for this year since we missed out on some big portal transfers.
Going forward it seems like an issue that seems to be resolving itself.

Next 3 years includes Nuss and our WRs/TEs this year with the best O line in the country but questions on defense, plus 2 years of Underwood/Berry with a talented but unproven O line and what almost certainly will be an improved defense.

It seems fair. 2027 LSU should be a NC team, maybe 2026 if everything shakes out right.

Pate understands CFB more than most.

He puts out his thoughts with reasoning behind them.

He could be right and he could be wrong.

It is OK to not like an opinion. Anybody bashing Josh Pate as a football content creator is a mouth breather that has no clue about the sport.

Big difference is we will win a championship with some 8-4s thrown in. Probably another Heisman. Others will have a bunch of 10-2s that no one will remember.

It also takes more to win in football than things that we see daily. I've hears multiple times that Kelly is as cerebral as anyone when it comes to Xs and Os. If he were to get the right combination of assistants, then LSU could take off. Losing Denbrock sucked, but he wasn't willing to pay of forward, so frick him and we moved on. He wasn't aligned. Things can be very hit or miss with a coach like Kelly. He does everything intentionally, and sometimes those intentions are thwarted.

You realize he went back to ND to be closer to his aging parents, right?

NIL will not be the reason LSU would be 11th in this hypothetical scenario. There are not a lot of teams ranked ahead of LSU that are head and shoulders above them in NIL. Certainly Oregon and Texas.

Him openly shilling for Alabama over FSU during the CFP bullshite this year made me lose almost all my respect for him.

Reports are that what actually happened is that he wasn't willing to share the OC position with Joe Sloan.

He makes $10 mil per year. Perhaps he should kick in?

When players are eventually paid directly by schools, the money will come partly from coaching salary and staff reductions anyway.

Let’s kick it off now.
