Do you think he cracks the starting lineup

It's hard not to see him starting once they get to SEC play. He has a skill set that is desperately needed and who no one else on the team can really replicate.

who goes to the bench?

My guess would be whoever is starting at the 3 now (Manning, Wilkinson, Hyatt). Days has his limitations on defense, but he plays hard and is probably the most efficient player on the team offensively and on the glass.

With a frontcourt of Leblanc, Days and Watford, LSU may have the best rebounding trio in all of the SEC and one of the best in the entire country. One way to mitigate poor defense is to make sure your misses turn into points anyway (via offensive rebounds). That's what the 18-19 team did best.

Leblanc doesn't look like a guy who can ONLY stay in the paint on defense. He can switch out on a wing. Plus, I think Wade probably feels he has enough outside firepower in Smart, Thomas and Days (when he's hot) to make up for the offensive versatility you are losing by putting in Leblanc for, say, Manning.

If Leblank (lol what the announcer called him) can play anything close to what he showed in that 14 minutes this team can really be good.
A starting 5 of:
Smart, Thomas, Watford, Days, and Leblanc will be hell to deal with.
And I like Manning, Cook, and O'neal to give some minutes. Heck, I believe Hyatt will contribute some minutes as well as Gaines.
Still don't know what to think of PennJohnson or Gray contributing.

In another thread someone compared Leblanc to a young Rodman. I like that comparison.

That press will be a flat out weapon come SEC play.

I agree the press, especially with this team, can be very effective. But I would like to see Wade, at least for one game prior to SEC, have the players commit to it a little more and ratchet up the pressure on traps. Too many times I see our players approach a trap very half heartedly and either allow the offensive player to step through or dribble through it, or have enough room to pass over it.

Generally when a team approaches a press that way it can have some downside, more namely in the form of fouls or when it still gets broken you can have more of a runout and unbalanced numbers on the other end. However, we are already seeing that. There has been a number of times in many games where the ball makes it to the middle or down the sideline and we have 3 defenders behind the ball trying to play catch up. I just think trapping harder will pay off more dividends than what it hurts.

I definitely like when they throw the 1-3-1 half court defense out this year though. This team has so much length and athleticism that they should do well in a defense like that and can make it very frustrating for the other team when used properly and timely.

Yep, height can be a misleading factor when that's the case, you don't rebound and block shots with the top of your head.

You left out Wilkinson. I think he will contribute as well.

I knew I was leaving someone out.
Yes, I like Wilkinson as well for some minutes. As he learns and matures he will be a good one.

Good analysis and happy to see fans excited about basketball. This team could win the SEC.

In his case I can see being shorter but with a higher standing reach as an advantage. Keeping a low center of gravity while reaching as high as any other big will help him block more shots when the shooter initiates contact

This comparison is a good one. He’s a Rodman type when Rodman was young in that he can guard wings and some 4s. He’s got enough quickness to play the 3 for us and still protect the rim in the matchup zone. On offense with Watford playing beyond 15-18 feet and handling the ball a lot Leblanc doesn’t have to be on the wing. He can set screens and attack the glass. He doesn’t really have a post up game, his buckets come off of others getting him the ball in openings. He’s 7-11 from 3 for his career so while he hasn’t shot many he’s made the ones he’s taken. He can fit in perfectly with our starting lineup, again Watford and Days do not play near the basket so he won’t clog up space for us. We need more size and defense in our starting 5 anyway.

The main trait that he possesses is that he don't take no crap. He will get in the opponents face and EVERY championship team needs that. From Cookie Man in 1981 to Tyrus Thomas in 2006..... Now we have LeBlanc that will be the enforcer. Love his motor and his length.

Bigsby as in KBW from couple years ago? And Brandon bass? Those 2 are as far apart as players as could be.

I started watching Georgetown because Mac McClung went there and I enjoyed watching him play. I noticed this LeBlanc guy right away because he had a Louisiana name. Then I found out he was from Baton Rouge and thought that Wade should have gotten him for the Tigers because he was impressive. Started for Georgetown his entire freshman season and was a great defensive player and rebounder. Had lots of those great putback dunks. He didn't take many 3's but when he did he made them. Give him the ball at the top of the key and if he is open and can square his feet, it is usually in.

I see him starting most of the time but depending on matchups, he might come in to spell Days as he has a similar game. The thing that impresses me the most is his quickness and jumping ability. Agile enough to take on a guard if he had to.

I see him as our 5th starter playing down low primarily. Allows Days to be our swing man with his 3 pt shot.

I don't think it was an issue of Wade not wanting him. It's just that class had Smart, Days, Williams, Reid in it and KBW was going to be eligible. There wasn't a ton of minutes to be had at the PF position that year.

However, it has worked out perfectly for Wade and LSU. They get a guy with high level experience and high level play to be able to step into a team that desperately needs his skill set

LeBlanc will play almost starter like minutes, but I don’t think he’s a starter on this team. Simply because of the rotation and the lack of bigs we have. From a rotation standpoint it doesn’t make sense starting 3 of your top 4 bigs.

I just can’t see continuing to start Hyatt or Wilkenson when you have someone like Leblanc sitting there. I’ll bet a you a Diet Coke he is starting by January.

Announce return of the Waters/KBW lob but with Cook/LeBlanc

I'd love to see it...but I think Gaines is the guy who would be throwing the lob. Cook, who has been very good, looks to be more in the "Smart...score first" mode

Tremont's ability to throw the lob from anywhere was amazing. The guy could dribble with his right hand and throw a perfect lob, off the bounce, from the 3 point line.

If Monday was any preview, I think Leblanc will have the most "wow" plays on the team. Smart, Thomas, Watford, Days are all steady, great players but there is not a lot of explosive plays in their games. Leblanc comes soaring in from nowhere with his long arms extended above everyone else!
