Virginia baseball was nothing before O’Conner. He brought them to the previous 2 CWS, and 3 of the last 5. He has a natty and a runner up.7 total CWS appearances. Virginia made the tournament 3 times before O’Conner and then made it the first 14 years he was there. Chris pollard did a great job at duke, but not even close to what O’Connor did.

Hernandez looks a lot better defensively than I was expecting.

I’ll take a Hernandez every year behind the plate. Teams don’t really steal that much, and to me, throwing out runners is his biggest weakness at the position.

And Arrambide made a clear improvement from week 1 defensively. It was one of his biggest weaknesses coming out of HS

I live in Virginia and follow their program, very successful under Brian O'Connor.. 7 CWS appearances, 1 championship, 1 runner-up. Prior to O'Connor arriving they were dreadful! Much better job than Duke, great facilities but overall, the entire athletics program is a mess, the AD seems to be the common denominator according to Virginia fans.

Like I said in another thread, whoever takes the Duke job better get some guarantees that they are going to invest in the program. I don't know what their NIL budget is but watching the Super Regional this weekend their facilities looked very subpar.

Haven't they been in the Supers like 5 out of the last 8 years?

A private university like Duke in the 2nd best conference in college baseball is probably not going to drop the ball on NIL

Living in NC over BR, Starkville, Gainesville, and almost all of the SEC sites also factors in, not only for the coach, but recruiting the kids too

Say it ain’t so :(

In a meeting I had with him recently, he said he’s at LSU as long as Jay would have him……..

But the Duke job wasn’t open back then.

This would be a massive loss. Josh Jordan does so much behind the scenes

That's what I'm talking about. Obviously O'Connor built UVA, but the AD as a whole isn't great. Duke was just in a Super Regional. You would think it would be just as easy to stay at Duke and build them into a contender.

WTF

O'Connor is a fantastic baseball coach. What he's done at UVA is pretty spectacular, given their history.

ETA:

He's going to bring Mississippi State back into top shape almost immediately.

He's off to a great start by bringing over his whole roster that had the second worst collapse this year only dwarfed by the absolute meltdown of A&M.
