Aren’t dart and arky qb running threats? They contained them. They have no set defense for RPO/dual threat qb’s? We know Kelly doesn’t know how to implement a spy after gump game last year. 10 million $ for that crap

This defense is still not there. Lot of work to do on that side of the ball. The oline can pass block but can't run block. Part of defending a guy like Reed is to keep him off of the field and you can do that if you can run the ball and we can't.

I’m quite sure when I looked at their faces I saw that Kelly was thinking about needing a Gatorade and Baker had a tooth that was hurting.

It's one reason they wore all black. Say what you want, those all black uni's help hide the ball in a night game. And Reed is as good as I have ever seen with his fakes.

With some buck sweep and jet sweep mixed in, it's more than just zone read.

Having to pass on every 3rd and short, even when you're passing a ton on 1st down and gaining nothing on the ground on 2nd down, just isn't going to result in W's

This team has fatal flaws as it relates to winning championships.

Expectations got out of hand with some good fortune.

Whoever in the he’ll downvoted this; so you like paying an incompetent Coach $10 million a year?

I didn’t downvote your post, but I’d like to. Everyone on the rant is so obsessed with the money BK is making as if his compensation is coming directly out of your personal bank account. Who the frick cares what the University is paying him?

And yes, his long term contract and guaranteed money makes his buyout more. But if you think that the University and the boosters just simply “don’t have the funds” to send him on his way, then you don’t understand the simple rules of finance and return on investment. It’s not about winning a NC for the University. IT’S ALL ABOUT REVENUE! Revenue that is driven by brand recognition via media outlets. LSU is betting that a well known, highly regarded coach with a solid track record (BK) will do “well enough” to keep that revenue coming into the school year after year. And if he gets a NC, that’s just icing on the cake for them.

So please just stop with all of the talk about BK’s salary and whether it’s reasonable. It literally has no effect on you personally and isn’t keeping the University from buying him out if they feel it’s necessary at some point.

Get used to it. Happens to BK led programs 2-3 times a year.

Should have gone straight Goal line defense.

u do not even need that.

for example

let's say we have a 4-3 front

let both DE's contain edge. HOPE the DT's can absorb blockers to keep him from running between tackles since we are containing on the edges.

if our contain on the edges fails or our DT's cannot maintain gap integrity bring in a 5th rusher on one of the A gaps. let him see if he can help out.

if not bring in a 6th rusher so now you are basically blitzing both A gaps to get to him quickly before he can get to edge if he tries. it also keeps him from running between tackles.

6 men rushing means you will be in man with 5 DB's. no help over the top. basically a cover 0 blitz.

that should stop his runs and force him to pass to beat you.

or you can also throw a spy in there and try that as well.

Wondering what a healthy Harold Perkins spying on the QB would have done.

Never really had championship aspirations for this team given the roster but a playoff game or two would be nice

There’s only so much time in the week for prep. They probably focused on something else and didn’t think it would bite them in the arse. Well, it did.

People make mistakes.

I wonder how many coaches are preparing for Rickie Collins, Knox Dyson, Colin Hurley and AJ Swann? You know, just in case.

All good comments, but I really felt that the defense was gassed and when "Slick Reed" entered the game with fresh legs, he was just that much faster than everyone else. We need to recruit more speed on Defense to contend with players like Reed. The turnovers did no justice for a tired defense especially with a speedster like "Slick Reed".

They played the same damn quarterback last week at Arkansas. It didn’t fricking matter. The speed is what killed them. That’s why you saw weeks on Ackles where he couldn’t get to the ball quick enough. It wasn’t about the preparation as much as it was about the talent level on the fricking field. That’s where Harold Perkins would’ve made a difference.

WTF? AAAAAHHHHHH Kelly doesn't teach run blocking or how to defend zone read QB's. There are people called position coaches, maybe you have heard of them.

True. I know I saw Reed run a buck sweep. I don't recall a jet sweep, but I'm not doubting A&M ran it.

My point is merely that Reed did not run an exotic scheme or exotic plays. Reading guards on a buck sweep is fundamental football. Defensing a jet sweep is fundamental football. The defense did not need to have every possible play repped against them by a Reed scout team. They know how to run fit those plays.

The first Reed TD was a simple play, but our safeties failed to execute. Gilbert gets over late. Burns and Ryan fail to force/contain on a ball carrier who is clearly headed outside the hash. I have no idea what 8 and 3 are doing.
