Jones wouldn't. He gets impatient and swings at pitches half a foot out of the zone!

In Frey’s defense, he’s hit a lot of hard hit balls that have been right at fielders in SEC play

He also played hurt last year. He really hasn't had a chance to play every day against SEC pitching.

But you're right. Sometimes it's not the pitching, but it can be the fielding and quality of the defense. Along with LUCK.

Curiel has to stay as the table setter. He works counts and usually sees a lot of pitches, gets on base better than anyone on the team,

OPS

1.041 Curiel

It's a coin flip for these guys. The difference is that Curiel K's a little more often than Dickinson.

That's just wrong. He's second on the team in walks with 25.

Maybe for the season. In SEC play, he is 8th on the team in walks with 3. Braswell has twice as many walks in less than half of the at-bats.

It worked well last night, against a good team but throwing mid week guys.
McNeese threw 9 pitchers last night, lol. How do you know McNeese’s pitching staff that well? I’ll have to take your word for it.

If you want to flip them against LHP then fine. DC is at a disadvantage against lefties and that’s shown itself a bit.

But he’s a better pure hitter than Danny. You can source numbers but the guy uses all fields and works counts and puts more stress on pitchers than Dickinson etc He’s the better pure hitter and decision maker that you want at the top of your order imo

Not well at all. But I think it's safe to assume we didn't face their top guy.

A quick search of their stats shows their starter is 12th on the team in ERA (some due to how last night went). He also started last Sunday's game and went 2 innings and gave up 2 runs to Incarnate Word.

They threw 9 arms because they wanted to get a lot of guys work. Big Ben said on the broadcast going into the game their coach wanted to get a lot of guys work, so that's what they did. They threw some good relievers on their staff and they also threw some of their worst relievers. Regardless, it was still a mid week pitching type of performance, similar to what we had. Get guys work who need work while also trying to win the game.

I'm not sure he put a ton of thought into it,probably was just seeing if it would get the guys going. Jay normally doesn't do anything without a lot of thought, but this imo is an exception.

I think he's just trying to show that he's going to change things if we're not producing at the plate

Was driving and not really listening but Hunt opined it may be getting a guy at the top that drives the ball a little better if Stanfield and/or Bras got on at the bottom.

Also start the game with R, L, R.

Sure, i def dont want our worst hitter hitting behind jones. Thats not smart based on bringing a guy up more often who isnt as good of a hitter.

Furthermore, if they “pitch around” jones, i take that to mean walking him alot. I dont think thats a bad thing at all.
I dont buy the “protection” in the lineup fallacy. You stack good hitters near the top of your lineup regardless of “protection”. Pitchers and coaches arent going to pitch more carefully to jones based on who is behind him in the lineup. He is a power hitter, so theyll pitch carefully to him anyway. Whether thats dickinson or curiel or frey hitting behind him. Only in an extreme case would they really walk him w bunch. For instance if you had a meek .190 hitter (freshmen year milazzo) hitting behind him. Which we would never have in the top of our lineup.

Lately it seems like the bottom of the order has been better than the top half. Dickenson has much more pop than Curiel, so putting him 1 gives the potential to drive in some of those bottom guys as the line turns over. Maybe. I don't hate it and I don't think it's a long term thing, but might end up a good move to jump start the offense a bit.

You may not, but does CJJ. There is some merit to it, at least to the extent that coaches believe it.

I personally would have put Milam in the 2 hole and Dickinson cleanup.
