At this rate he'll be recruiting his own children to play for LSU while still on the team.

Year 7 for Emery….
Nothing but respect for this kid, as he has been plagued by leg injuries and has still hung in there and remained a faithful tiger. I hope he makes some plays and earns himself some $

I still remember that last juke he did. That Guy has some serious talent. He deserves a chance to show it without getting hurt. Best of luck to him

Wow. Is there a retirement plan for college players?

Good for John. Hopefully he can just finish his career healthy. He's worked hard to get to where he is but when is enough. You gotta drive that car til the day you die bro

I thought he was out of eligibility?

I admire his dedication but he needs to move on with life man

Hell yeah. We needed another veteran back and this saves having to find one from the portal. Not sure what role he’ll wind up having—won’t get a ton of carries most likely—but our 2 most talented backs are a true freshman and a true sophomore coming off an injury. Even if Kaleb Jackson figures it out, while he’s a junior, he just doesn’t have a whole lotta reps for an upperclassmen.
I wouldn’t count on a ton of production from John—if any—but he can at least be a leader and mentor to the younger guys in the room. What a story of persistence and overcoming adversity. And if he can stay somewhat healthy, he may not have 200 total yards, but I bet he makes a 2 or 3 crucial plays in big games that help us win.

I believe he had to get a medical RS to make it happen. I thought he was going to the draft

Talent was never the issue-it was the injuries. Hope he stays healthy all year.

He is absolutely electric at times. If he can stay healthy, he can be a contributor.
I wish nothing but success for the guy, he has had a hard road.

Why? Another free year of post-graduate classes and a little NIL money that’s got to be more than he’d make in whatever “real world” job he might get. What if he wants to get into coaching? Another year around Frank and the LSU coaching staff could only help with that.

When he's healthy, he's good. I'm happy he's coming back.

After reviewing JE's situation, the NCAA may have granted him an additional year due to several factors.
When a player misses a season because he’s injured, his team can file a petition with the NCAA for an offsetting year of eligibility. Those requests are usually granted as long as the player didn’t participate in more than three games — or 30 percent of the scheduled games, whichever’s higher, in sports other than major college football.
Other than injures, a player has a few ways to get a waiver for extra years. The key here, according to the NCAA’s Division I manual, is that the player missed a season of competition because of something “beyond the control of the student-athlete or institution.” Aside from injury, that can be a few things:
- A serious illness in a player’s family.
- A player’s school giving him bad academic advice or guidance, which leads to that player becoming academically ineligible.
- A natural disaster, like an earthquake or flood.
- “Extreme financial difficulties” stemming from a major life event, in which the player or the person a player depends on for money suddenly can’t make it. The NCAA cites job layoffs and family deaths as examples of qualifying events.
Players still need to go to class in some fashion. A player in his seventh year isn’t still taking undergrad sociology, but the NCAA’s academic rules don’t stop applying.
