This PhD student at Iowa developed a model for predicting where recruits would sign. Social media activity is a big factor -- i.e., who they follow is a pretty decent predictor of where they will sign -- even when accounting for the traditional factors like distance to the campus, etc.
tldr -- This stuff isn't trivial, it reflects their interests.

I still have only the vaguest ideas of who this guy is. He's causing quite a ruckus so I assume he's got significant talent. I know he's Mr. Ohio and what not. But it just feels weird. Like being a Pelicans or Saints fan. It hardly feels like players of this caliber choose to come here in this way. We'll get them through direct means like recruitment or the draft or trades...
But a big college equivalent of a free agent coming down here? We'll see.

We may never know, but I'm anxious to know if LSU players are talking to him or not. They could easily reach out to him if they wanted to. I think that would play a huge role in him feeling confident and comfortable in coming here. If the offensive players and faces of the team are in his ear, he's coming.
