Stats don't really tell you that much. If you watched the game you'd know Miami got a lot of their yards on big chunk plays that were pretty much 50/50 balls and their WRs might some really great catches. Problem is they were already out of the game when they accumulated a lot of those yards.

They weren't able to consistently move the ball. In the first half. They weren't great on 3rd downs either.

Props to us for being prepared for the first game of the season.

We started off a little shaky on offense but I think it's obvious who was more prepared for that game.

3rd down stat is misleading because we were trying to run down the clock with run run run.

Well said.. Huge to get that win and now have two weeks of practice reps with the first home game in between. Now we have an opponent that you should be able to work on being efficient after several days of dissecting mistakes and Ironing out wrinkles. To me keys are creating a good pocket for Joe consistently, off line being cohesive.. no penalties, false starts, unblocked blitzers etc.. Wr’s must catch the ball.. Get Dillon in there and catch the damn ball!! Get his confidence back!! He is a weapon and looks uncoverable at times. He is key imo to solidifying the starting 4 at Wr. Jefferson - Giles - Chase/Marshall & Dillon. That’s where we can give AU trouble. Their DB’s can’t cover our wr

I disagree. You can't take away the turnovers and penalties. That's a part of the game. It is what it is. That defense was impressive even giving up the plays at the end. It was a dominant performance.

we didn't dominate like many of you suggested...it was a quality win

lsu had two big plays and a few timely penalties on their side, but they didn't dominate UM at all

Wait. Are you arguing my facts of what DID happen with some hypothetical of what was one possible outcome if something ELSE had happened?

Surely, you did not do that.

Turn on the TV, replay the game, fast forward to the 4th quarter, look at the dejected fans and the depressed duck. Then, tell me if they were experiencing a ‘ nearly even matchup’.

any chance this was downplayed to hurt LSU's recruiting in Texas? specifically in the Houston area?

Oh man I remember LSU at Florida in 2006. I mean if LSU doesn’t turn the ball over 5 times it’s a different game! Same thing, right Joel Klatt?!?

I didn’t read the whole thread and probably repeating other comments but we did take a knee with plenty time left before half and played backups in the third quarter.

That's actually your problem. Anyone who objectively looked at the game could see LSU had many problems. they definitely were not as dominant as the score suggest especially going to sleep in the second half. If anything, you have to question if Miami even deserved to be a ranked team. They looked fricking awful and did nothing but shoot themselves in the foot. They played so bad that LSU didn't even really do anything that impressive. Their stats are not even all that great on defense or offense. It more just shows how bad Miami really is.

We'll see about this in a couple weeks.
Not really disagreeing, but I recall a squad from 2011 that made many teams quit much the same.

Ya they just doin damage control so they don’t look stupid. He and guys like Barrett really pushed the LSU is a 5 win team narrative blah blah blah. They want so bad for A&M to rise up. They pick em every season even though we keep beating them

And if they had played a cupcake in the opener instead of probably their toughest regular season opponent, they likely win easily.

Several pretty highly ranked teams played cupcakes at home, and still almost lost.

Miami's got a lot to work with, and time to fix it.

Sometimes not making many 3rd down conversions means you were making 1st downs on first and 2nd down instead....or even touchdowns on 1st downs...

Well converting 3 of 16 means we didn’t convert on first, second or third down 13 out of 16 times.

Many problems?? The only real problems I saw were blowing some timeouts early, having a few unnecessary penalties and dropping a few easy passes. It was OVER at halftime. LSU had 27 at half. Miami ended up with 17 total even with playing our 2nd string guys. LSU completely dominated Miami on defense and special teams. And LSU's offense put up 20 in the first half (which was dominant compared to them in the 1st half). LSU's D will make many teams look bad this year. You'll see.

Well, the AP polls thought it was convincing enough to move us up 14 spots.
