The irony of this thread is that the same people chastising Freeman and ND for their weak schedule are patting Kelly on the back for succeeding when he had that same schedule.

Without NIL, Freeman would be completely lost.

This is the part everyone is missing. Kelly may be guilty of bad timing, but it’s apples and oranges comparing his record pre-NIL to Freeman’s post-NIL. It’s just not the same landscape anymore. ND has the alumni base to compete in this new environment that wasn’t available to them before.

In all fairness to Kelly he inherited a roster with 38 scholarship players.

LSU in 2022 and ND in 2022 are not comparable. When Kelly took LSU over, he had garbage to work with. Freeman took over a team that almost made the 4 team playoff in 2022. Huge difference.

The irony of this thread is that the same people patting Freeman on the back for ND and their success this season are chastising Kelly for his better success at ND.

uga was a sugar bowl win and may have been better off w/o beck. clemson absolutely rolled Notre Dame in the acc championship game with lawrence playing. they beat them with dju playing qb earlier that season.

winning the sugar bowl/playoff/ny6 against sec champ uga > clemson during the regular season.

Wut?

By what metric was Georgia better off without Beck?

It’s really simple if you just watch the games and how LSU vs ND play. In the 3 years under Kelly LSU has looked undisciplined, outcoached, and just downright lazy in a handful of important games every year which dates back to ND. I’m just not confident in him leading a team to a Championship. Just haven’t seen it in big games. Outside of a couple of years @ ND Kelly’s teams always underperform

Meanwhile Notre Dame has lost to multiple G5 teams, they literally lost a game to Ohio State because they only had ten men on the field.

Agreed they were blowing through coaches before BK. NIL has helped Notre Dame. They played it right. And it has watered down the dominant teams.

You have to account for all of it. You can't just say that the regular season is harder and ignore the playoff games. For example, in the BCS era, Notre Dame could go 12-0 against a weak schedule and be in the national championship game. This year Notre Dame could have gone 12-0 then have to win 3 straight games against top 12 teams just to get to the national championship game.

It’s fair to say 2012 ND may not have made the title game in a 12-team playoff, but it’s equally fair to say ND wouldn’t have made it to the semifinals this year in a 4-team playoff. Which brings us back to the point that Freeman hasn’t achieved anything Kelly didn’t achieve under the same set of rules. Kelly finished in the Top 4 of the BCS/CFP rankings on 3 occasions. Freeman has yet to do so. Anything else is just guessing how their respective teams would have performed in the postseason under a different system.

ND and PSU are both overrated. The Texas tOSU game will become the champ.

BK is building here, and it will pay off soon.

These dudes are choking their chicken so hard over what Freeman had done at ND this year and trying to rub it in Kelly’s face so bad because he left their heaven on earth to come to LSU.

I’m not sure what any of this has to do with Brian Kelly

Was replying to this sentence in particular:

Everyone is jacking off over Notre Dame because they beat Indiana and Georgia, but they've also looked pretty bad at times under Freeman, despite him taking over a team that was losing 1 or 2 games a year.

There's a portion of this board that likes to prepare the high points of other coaches to the low points of ours, for some reason.

At the end of the day, BK is doing okay and has the second highest winning percentage of any coach in this conference at their current school.
