Who cares how well it sits with you? As CLM said "I hope that's all my quarterback's goal."

It's a no win situation for the JJ.

He makes comments that show his determination and drive and he's not humble enough.

If he had said what you wanted him to say then it's used as an example to show how passive he is and obviously not a leader.

different people will interpret JJ's comments to fit whatever they so choose in the moment.

Still, the public wording could be a bit more judicous.

I'd argue that the public shouldn't be dissecting everything these kids say. Of course they want to play.

I'd much prefer JJ to say that "my goal is to do whatever I can for this team in whatever role that may be."

JJ has always found a way to make comments that make you scratch your head.

No, I think he should keep the mouth shut, actions do speak louder than words. We all know he wants his job back, I think he should just earn it back and not talk much about it.

Do you really want a player on your team that doesn't want to be a starter?

Then he can compete for the job

Saying this like this isn't good for the team

When asked a question like this, anyone with an IQ north of the temperature on my thermostat will say that they'll do whatever they can to help the team win.

It's like he is personally trying to invent a QB controversy. He lost the starting job because he's a stupid motherfricker. He won't get it back because Lee is playing better than he ever has or ever will.

Q: Is it important to you to be the starting quarterback again?

A: “It’s a personal goal of mine. It’s very important to me and I would do whatever it takes to get to that situation but as of right now it’s for what’s best for the team.”

Q: You can live with being a backup the rest of the year, the second option?

A: “Whatever is best for the team, that’s what I’m going to do.”
DING DING DING!!!

why the frick are people leaving out his entire answer? i don't get it.

besides, what's wrong with having personal goals to be a starter?

How does that make JL feel?

It doesn't matter how Lee feels about the comment. He's the starter. I don't know why everyone wants to treat Lee like he is a fragile little baby and any little thing can screw up the way he'll play on the field.

"you can get on a podium and say 1 sentence to 10,000 different people and that 1 sentence will be taken 10,000 different ways."

Eh, something like that.

I'd much rather JJ appear apathetic and just roll over. Competition's for losers.

Exactly. I love how people expect a 21 year old to speak like he's 40. It's a silly expectation, and it occurs far to often. They're still young, and they aren't professionals. They aren't paying people to coach them on how to deal with the media like a Pro-Athlete would. We really need to stop treating them as such.

Freakin read the whole interview! And to the person who thinks jj shouldn't have said crap, I wonder what you would have said about jj if he denied the interview. Some of you are ridiculous.

JJ's comments have not been sitting very well with me either. I see it as a very self centered comment. I also didn't like that he was quoted saying that he didn't regret anything that happened and that he just looks at the "incident" as a learning experience. No apologies or no "good job" JL for stepping up. By JJ saying that he would do whatever it took to get his starting position back, do you think this puts any undue pressure on JL to over perform in crucial games or crucial 3rd down plays??? Or makes JL have to look over his shoulder at all times?? That is how I would have taken his comments. Why allow him to talk to the press openly and freely?
I agree that he is a tremendous asset to this team as in the double quarterback system. Why let him talk to the press, especially before we go into the meat and potatoes of our schedule?

Uhhh, yeah. It's the same guy that in the same article said no one in the nation has had it harder than him.

No one with cancer, no one who died in a fiery crash, who lost a leg to a skin eating disease......has had it harder than poor, poor JJ. Yeah they may have died but he lost his starting QB job.
