what says the Rant???

There is a reason posters on here are typing on a message board and not in a dugout coaching...

The difference between most of them and me is I know my limitations.

I get the feeling that the only thing he does every day of his life is work on this team in some way.

“Wish all our coaches were that way”

We know Ed wasn’t lol

PM wouldn’t have gotten Skenes of White so picture this team without them.

There are several players on this team that are to tall to play for PM.

It’s hilarious that people are still trying to blame Mainieri for bad things that happen this year.

We’re like 2 years removed and JJ had his first recruiting class sign this year. We’re still plugging so many holes with freshmen and transfers.

PM can get some blame.

PM was really good his first 6 seasons but fell of the table with recruiting and kind of became same ole same ole. Leaving pitchers in too long or not long enough. I believe coach JJ right now is a better recruiter and makes better in game decisions than PM did in the back half of his tenure. Omaha and a naty would put him decidedly in front of PM. It’s possible that JJ is better than PM. Not a big enough sample right now.

Year two PM was 49-19-1, won the SEC West, and made it to Omaha. JJ very similar record in year two but blew the opportunity for the SEC West and SEC season title the last two weekends. Still has Omaha in sight. I’m encouraged by JJ but was also a PM supporter. They are on par with each other at this point.

it's not nearly enough to make up for the difference in recruiting and roster management.

Mainieri also didn’t have the transfer portal.

Even so, all of the portal pitchers except Skenes has been arse. His roster management has not been all that impressive. shite, the majority of the roster is stlll PM guys. And most of the starters do not have positions. Team defense has been bad for two yeare, Johnson has way too many lefties because Augie Garido once said lefties were awesome. And they don’t run.

It never really seemed like CPM’s teams had as bad of pitching as we’ve had the last 2 years. And PM’s pitching definitely could have been better. PM just had more experience and knowledge than JJ, and that alone makes him a better coach than JJ right now. He knew what buttons to push and knew what to do to get things to work. Another poster mentioned mental toughness and PM’s teams definitely had more mental toughness than JJ’s teams have so far. JJ’s teams act young and not as mature when things go wrong. PM’s teams could handle adversity. And it’s no knock on JJ it’s just PM’s age, experience, and knowledge that makes the difference with those things. JJ will get there at some point and it’s just a part of the process. It will be well worth it too.

I really wish people would stop knocking on both coaches because they’re both very good coaches, and we’re lucky to have had guys like them leading our baseball program.

.

Couldn’t some of that be attributed to the injuries .

I agree both good coaches we were fortunate to have.

There are injuries to pitchers every year, even when PM was here. Hell people wanted Alan Dunn fired every time a pitcher got hurt.

Skenes was still an impressive get. I thought Ackenhausen was good until his injury. I also thought Reyzelman was a solid transfer pitcher last season.

It's only his second season at LSU, so I expect the majority of the roster to be PM guys, but I like the guys he has committed and the top bats he has brought in the past two seasons. Jacob Berry and now Tommy White. Keep that going please.

LSU's defense is at .974. For reference a team like Florida is at .975. I wonder if their fans are bitching about their defense? I don't understand all the criticism here. The defense has improved and is on par with other top teams.

Exactly how should he have managed his roster? This seems like harsh criticism. I like having a team competing for an SEC title in year two that also leads the SEC in batting average. I like having a coach that is a relentless recruiter. I expect he will hit the portal even harder for pitching next season.

Sure, but LSU lost all 3 of their top relief arms and still nearly won the SEC title. Plus Ackenhausen missed time so that's a 4th and he hasn't been right since returning. They also finally got Coleman back. It's been a bit much.

Pretty sure Jay Johnson knows it's never enough and he will have to continue to get better arms.
