JJ Chopping It Up with Skip

A group of us had a lunch meeting at Walk-On’s today on Burbank. Our neighboring table was none other than Coach JJ and Skip - just chopping it up together. This was so great to see and love seeing JJ still leveraging the mind of an all-time great in the game.
Just a reminder that he’s doing the right things to build and sustain a great program.

That’s cool and all but I doubt JJ is asking Skip for tips.
JJ is a damn fine coach. Skip is the GOAT, but the game is completely different now.

Skip said on broadcast sunday that they meet every monday. He said Jay is gracious with his time and allows skip to give his 2 cents in. What a resource.

Advice is like sex. Take it from whoever and whenever you can

This is unlike pawl maineri who proceeded to poach an assistant on staff while he had keys to the office

PM can't get over the fact that jay turned things around and won a natty in year 2 from taking over
the pitching was in shambles when Paul left

JJ loves baseball. It’s clearly not just a job, but his absolute passion and he’s said a few times that getting to meet and be around Skip was one of the best parts of the job.

Situational management never changes. I've heard several former Tigers talk about Skips attitude in bad situations. Situational Leadership is undefeated.

JJ is the best coach we have on campus. Period….

I can't imagine any circumstance where CJJ talking every week with Skip is not a great idea. According to the many times CJJ has talked about those meetings, they don't just talk about baseball X & O's. Skip gives him many useful ideas about motivational tools., game management, the SEC in general, etc. Players have mentioned their game day rituals, lying in a dark room pre game, visualizing success in hitting, hitting, fielding, etc. This is pure Skip 101.

He is weaponized about his passion for college baseball. Skip is a master at finding ways to motivate teams. I would love to be eaves dropping their baseball chats.

What a horrible take! Skip continues to be around the game and the program on a weekly if not daily basis. Baseball doesn't change, it's not like football. In the end u still have to hit where they're not, and throw strikes.

Did they share a Death Valley? Actually do they still even sell those?

Paul liked the 5’7” 165lb guys.
We now have 35 guys over 6’ and nearly 20 over 6’3”. Skip called them ‘double fisted milk drinkers that he never had any of’….
Funny. He brought in big/athletic loose guys.

Baseball doesn't change that much.....other than the bats, the game is grounded.

The game itself doesn’t change, but college baseball has absolutely changed. In Skips day it was guys who couldn’t get drafted or were who were overlooked for whatever reason. The SEC in particular is on par with most AA teams and a lot of AAA teams when it comes to talent.
