...Skip clearly missed this on Les' resume.

The dude was a OC for 5 more years after we hired Miles. It isn't like he left and was immediately a huge success as a HC.
Jimbo isn't a better coach than Miles. Most years he gets the same 2 loss season with arguably more talent in a not arguably weaker conference. This is the first year where he may have too much talent to blow is ordinary 2 losses.

No. The tiger fans were very critical of Jimbo at the time because of our very vanilla offense. There would have been a massive outcry if he had been hired.
Absolutely correct. Jimbo's offenses were ok at-best during Saban's tenure and Jimbo was very hit-or-miss when it came to recruiting QBs. Our offense really could never find an identity under Fisher. IMHO, the greatest difference between Saban's LSU and Bama tenures is that, with Bama, Saban has figured out the best offensive system to pair with his defense (zone-blocking based running game / play-action down-field passing; very similar to the Mike Shanahan Denver Broncos' offenses in the 1990s) and the best coordinators and personnel to run that system. If Saban would've had OC's like McElwain and Nussmeier at LSU I think he would've had an even better run in Death Valley.

Exactly. Jimbo offenses went into a shell against any decent defense. With a better OC, LSU wins 2006 NC.

I remember people didn't want Fisher even as OC including me. Now that FSU has a good year you think
Fisher is the man? LSU has had several good years like FSU, not sure what is the point here.

Mike Archer is still the reason why LSU will be hesitant to hire anyone with no prior head coaching experience.
It is a valid reason as being a head coach requires skills, delegating and time management that you don't get in other positions.
This is very true and is also a reason FSU has now started to emerge strongly as opposed to right away under Fisher. He gained experience as a HC the past few years and now they will reap the benefits.
That said, Miles was a hire by Bertman with the intention of him being significantly easier to control than a Saban type coach. When Saban was at LSU, he dictated things, and Bertman didn't like that. It's also why a guy like Petrino was never going to get hired here.
Upon Bertman's retirement, LSU hired Alleva who now is Miles' whipping boy. Ironic how things turned out.

fricking Bertman. A niche sport deity.

Funny how people act like Jimbo took over an LSU level team like Miles did at LSU in 2005.
FSU in the years before Jimbo took over as head coach:
8-5, 7-6, 7-6, 9-4, 7-6 for a grand total record of 38-27 (0.585 winning percentage).
Since Jimbo took over:
10-4, 9-4, 12-2, and 6-0 (so far). So Jimbo has 37 wins in 3.5 years and Bowden had 38 total in his last 5 years. Yes, the guy has done absolutely nothing.

Bertman did a lot for LSU Athletics and the university as a whole, so it's hard to look negatively at him in some regards, but as an AD, he was a control freak and put his legacy above all.
It wasn't shocking. Great and I mean GREAT Baseball coach and mediocre AD, but nothing compares to the crap fest of an AD Joe Dean was.

Without looking at the precise numbers, if Jimbo wins the MNC this season, on the surface, his accomplishments as a head coach would appear to equal Les'.
Equal to Miles?
Jimbo was playing in the ACC featuring the canes that were destroyed by us while Les had to contend with FL, AU, GA and bama.

Again, can you please compare where both teams started from when the coaches took over?
LSU for 5 years before Miles had a 48-16.
FSU for 5 years before Jimbo took over was 38-27.
I'd say he's done a damn good job for a guy in his first year as a head coach.
Les took over a team that had a combined 22-4 record the previous two year and a NC.
Jimbo took over a team that was 16-10 the previous two years, but ignore that.

FSU still has few games to go before you get to crown ole Jimbo. He has shite the bed alot more times than he has been successful.
I don't know many fans in Tally who love Jimbo. Many feel he isnt a good fit there. I don't know why though - he seems solid.

If you remember Saban did not recommend him until late in the process. Also remember, that Saban did not take Jimbo with him to Miami. I wish that someone had strongly endorsed Jimbo. I admit that he was quite young at the time, and that is what hurt Mike Archer.

Dude, 9 and 4 is a winning season and therefore a successful season. There is room for improvement.

A team that was almost universally considered to have under-performed that last season under Bowden and won their division at 9-4 the previous year.
Of course, by Rant logic, he's winning with Bowdens recruits.
