And this wasn’t just recognition based on one splash play. Thomas played a season-high 30 defensive snaps against Ole Miss after seeing 15 against Clemson and 22 against Louisiana Tech. In those 30 snaps, he recorded four tackles, an assist and three defensive stops without missing a tackle.
His PFF numbers backed up the eye test: a 78.5 defensive grade, 82.9 tackling grade and 79.5 coverage grade.

He was fast, I mean real fast.
He pushed Cooley for a starting spot in Fall. Excited to see him start this weekend. He’s also the kid who blocked the punt vs A&M last year as a true freshman

The biggest thing is his assignment discipline was absolutely on point. That’s easily what is most important as a safety.
I think Jimcoily was victimized a bit because Baler played that soft cushion again and got us exposed on the backend for the final time late in the game. Cushions of 12-15 yards as a safety in or near the red zone in a Cover 3 look is just asking for violation of airspace. Even NFL safeties struggle in that scenario.

Good for him.
Expect to see his role grow bigger starting alongside Benefield.
Not sure Cooley or Jimcoily is the answer at STAR unless he's just the safest bet. Might need to tinker with that some. What about Dossett? Try different ones until one fits the best.

I think Lane and company really learned some valuable lessons from the Ole Miss game, specifically taking the bite out of Bakers Ds and playing bend don't break in the first half.
Jhase (and Jimicoly, for that matter) are going to be excellent pieces of this defense with some more seasoning, and the chance to settle into their roles.
We still have a very good secondary when they get to the play the kind of game Baker has optimized them for, which I'm fully expecting the rest of the season....

Didn’t he go in for Jimcoily at Star after he kept screwing up? Cooley was at S and Benefield plays Rover which is essentially a S.

Perhaps I'm a little hard on Jimcoily. Cooley too. Hopefully they get plenty of reps in practice at STAR while Thomas settles in at the other safety spot.

Jhase needs to play back. He has speed.
Cooley and Benefield need to be closer to LOS. Both are near 210lb. Jimcoily needs to be only certain circumstances for now and not whenever he has to cover a deep 1/3 3rd & long

The spears injury sucks majorly but it lightens the blow a bit when you can shuffle shite around and have someone step up like this

NFL Bloodlines. Even though that doesnt automatically equal success... he probably understands the preparation part of it better than most players at his age because of his Pops.
