But it still shows deficiencies in his game that it had to come to that.

This is where I disagree. I fully believe JJ CAN make that throw if he trusts himself, but it's a bit tough to make that throw when you've only be practicing the last 8 days. It's a timing route and he's been out of practice for well over a month.

JJ will get there, but that type of play is simply more suited for Lee at this point.

You realize when you make your cut on a slant in that situation and the QB still has the ball in his hands without even the hint of the throwing motion, running to the corner is pointless.

The play was over at that point and JJ clearly wasn't going to throw that pass anymore, which was the right call at that point.

Nobody is saying JJ made a stupid decision. He made the right choice based on how the play ended up, but he did hold onto the ball too long. It's simply not a play suited for JJ's strengths. The kid is a hell of a player, but the coaches got too cute and conservative there.

This x1000. I showed in my previous post, JJ should have thrown it sooner, but once he missed that opportunity, forcing it or throwing to the corner would have all been worse decisions than throwing away. He still missed a good opportunity. RR was in position to make a the catch after the cut HAD the ball already been there.

Not exactly. He had the option of running/bootlegging but there are two FL defenders spying him on the left side and one on the right.

JJ had no other options really.

JEEBUS!!

It was an incomplete pass. Get the frick over it.

Jarrett Lee is the starter. JJ plays a role. Coaches decide who does what./ WE get to cheer like hell for whoever is in the game.

6-0....#1 in the nation.

Honestly, I didn't really see anyone bitching that much about this play other than to say they didn't agree with the call. After initial reactions/frustration, most thought it was a wasted play, not because of JJ, but because the call itself was just poorly made.

5 pages of "hmmm...I kinda disagree with the call"?

AND...IF that is the case, it is even WORSE. The LSU offense looks the best it has in years. LSU is scoring TDs and destroying competition..and, there is 5 pages of "didn't agree with" ONE call???!!!

The ball has to be thrown before the wr is even in the end zone. Picture 3 should be the ball coming out of The qbs hands. There was only one route, there was no play action and there was max protect, meaning quick drop and throw it.

The wr is responsible for selling a different route to gain a step on the safety as well as beating the corner. He then reacts to where the ball is, this is fairly simple to see.

The ball wasn't thrown so the wr ran to a spot nobody was and the qb at this point did the right thing to throw it away.

Therein lies the beauty of the play call. Jefferson was given on man to read (Safety) and one WR to throw to.

It was either going to be open or thrown away. Both options were good and allowed for LSU to put points on the board.

Good post, but unfortunately the JJ haters will refuse to admit he made a smart decision. You're right though.

OMG!! I was so pissed at the idiots in my section booing Jefferson's 'horrible' pass on that play. I wondered if they have ANY football sense whatsoever. It was clearly a one man route. The gaytors didn't bite on the run formation...and he was covered under and over!!! WTF do they want JJ to do....throw into that shite and get picked. Un-ff--in--believable.

also of note, 5 minutes left in 3rd qtr up 3 scores and a field goal makes it a 4 score lead there. Don't force anything and take your 3. If wide open throw it, otherwise don't force it.

Seriously...don't limit it to sometimes.

The kid goes 3-4 after having not thrown a pass since January in game situation and after having missed 6 weeks of practice, and we've got people up his arse crack because he didn't zing a ball into a tight spot like Aaron Rogers before RR turns on an out route on 3rd down in the redzone.

Frankly, I don;t know why anyone bothers to even try and say a nice thing about Jefferson on here. The guy could go save a bus of orphans from drowning and some a-hole would complain he didn't bother to save the bus from going down and it shows what a shitty leader he is.

can the people who are saying the play call was an out route explain how receivers never break off their original routes (and aren't taught to) if the play isn;t there

It was a single receiver read route. RR had 3 options of a route to run based on the coverage and he chose the out. The qb can't eeny, meeny, miny, moe which route he thinks the receiver will run. If he threw the fade before RR made his cut for an out route the closest person to the ball would have been the safety. There's a possibility a throw to the out before the cut would have worked but there was as much chance as RR running the fade and the CB being the closest person to the ball.

He did make a smart decision to throw the ball away. I will agree 100%.

However, the bad decision was not throwing the ball early in the route so ONLY RR could catch the ball. By holding the ball he made the only play possible and that was throwing it in the stands.

If you are saying he is smart by throwing the ball away, I agree without question. But i disagree with him holding the ball too long.

So kudos on that because his Facebook wall was hilarious

the QB is supposed to throw the ball before the WR makes their break. JJ has never been able to do that

Great post BTW.

I formerly request more threads of plays being broken down frame by frame.

Just imagine...TD discussing football plays on the Rant...

Did JJ ask to do that? If so, that's priceless!
