Eddie Jackson was an all American safety at Bama and was like 185
I'm not saying he won't be successful. I saw the flashes last year and I think he'll make a lot of plays this year. But Eddie was an inch shorter and listed at 195 at bama. That's a big difference. And he's 205lbs now

Agreed! I wanted the saints to draft Eddie Jackson. But the reality is, defense body make up is changing with this new era of pass happy/spread offenses. We first saw the shift to lighter faster LBs and are now seeing the need for lighter more coverage skilled safeties.

On another note, with all the positive reports of Nudie taking a step forward, why wouldn't sting play outside in base but then inside in Nickle with Nudie and Ricks on the outside? Flott can play dime.
Because "nudie" is not as good as this board thinks he is. And use his name for Christ's sake - McGlothern.

Our safety play will be the determinant of the success of this team this year. If they are merely improved (and it will be impossible to not improve unless they put the same players back there again...ie Harris)then we will be just a good team. If Ward is great and Ryan/Burns are great, then our team defense will be great and we will have a shot at a title this year.
I think our LB play will be improved and that is good enough. Our Dline play should be stellar, but somehow we MUST find ways to pressure the pass happy teams in this league to take pressure off our safety. Not worried a bit about Stingley and Ricks if they stay healthy. Flott is a bit of a cocern...he must be better.
Just my .02 worth.

Pig or Langlois I see contributing in this way

Ryan is practicing at nickel ...he will challenge Flott

I think this is great he has so much speed and athleticism but it just didn't translate at cb, he was trucked and burned to many times he is young and should probably have red shirted but he is talented. Also hard to crack a lineup with singlet & Rick's. If he can get out there and be a free range safety using his speed and keep plays in front of him he will be great and I think be drafted. Should translate to some picks of he is on top and doesn't bite

Not sure what happened his senior year, but his ranking tanked and thought LSU had passed on him completely only to pop up out of nowhere late on.
I did a little research on this last season as I was curious too how he fell from early 5* CB to a 3*. First he changed HS every season. His last year he played a lot of WR and both ways. I think if I remember he had like 20 TD pass receptions his sr year... That told me he did not necessarily regress, he just applied himself to other needs of his team.

I expect him to wind up there this season. If he cant beat out Flott then he needs to turn in a few stars...

Ward has a lot of dog in him, just busts his arse and makes plays. The thing I like most about him too is that if he makes a mistake or gets beat he doesn’t pout or hang his head, instead he finds a way to make up for it. Safety is the perfect spot for him to just ballhawk and I think he’ll flourish there

Dwight McGlothern sounds like an MIT or Harvard students name haha

I am as well... I really liked his confidence/energy in the spring game.

Dwight definitely looks more like a safety than Ward. But, if Ward is best roaming the center field, then hard to argue that. Either way, it seems Tod Harris may be off man out. He looking very, very RB'ish right now.

Hard to guess when it’ll all come together. But I think Langlois will be the closest thing we’ve seen to TM7 by his Jr year. Criminal how underrated he was.
I think we’ll see:
CBs - Sting & Rick (obviously) with Flott and McGlock providing solid depth and Sage Ryan will be the best nickel we’ve had in a while once he’s ready for the field (potentially this year).
S - Harris probably starts with Jay Ward or Burns at the other spot but at some point they’ll have to put Langlois or Sage back there (if Sage isn’t playing the slot already). It’s impossible to predict Toles after last year’s debacle. Not to forget about D Davis Jr, just haven’t heard much yet.
Lots of question marks but a ton of depth and options. From that group we must have two, if not three or four, SEC starting safeties.
I think Langlois (SS) and either Jay Ward (if he stays), Sage, DD Jr, or Burns, whichever wins the FS job next year, will be a sick combo. If we find another star CB to take over for Stingley next year, our defense will be one of the best in the county. They might even be this year just hard to know if the Safety spot will deliver this year with below average vets and super athletic but inexperienced freshman. Hopefully this mighty Dline will take enough pressure off of them, it won’t matter.

I think McGlothern and ricks can hold down the outside next yr.
Mcghee is going to surprise some people at corner next yr.

Isn't Ward too small to play S, 175 lbs?
