Arizona has two solid sophomore pitchers, Smith Bailey and Mason Russell. Transfer portal?

If we're going to swing big for pitchers in the portal, let's take the two Louisiana guys in Southern Miss' weekend rotation.

Let's also take Brody Trosclair from Northwestern State and Tyler Weimer from Arkansas State.

Get them all. This staff needs an overhaul.

It's less about needing an overhaul and more about needing innings. Pitching is volatile and injuries happen frequently. I think one of the guys I mentioned as a potential portal target is currently injured.

We're going to lose guys to graduation and the draft that we currently rely on. There may be other attrition, but there isn't anyone that should absolutely be pushed out when you consider the development a guy like Fontenot made so late in his career.

This current staff, with a little development could easily be top 10 in the country next year

Not really worried about Schmidt for next year but IMO I like Evans better out of the pen or as a closer. Definitely need two more starters out of the portal

While you make valid points, when you get swept in a series where you scored at least eight runs in each game, you've got a big problem.

You rarely hear the argument for emotional thinking vs rational thinking, but here we are I guess.

Agree to a degree. However, to me Jay's biggest problem is that parity in college baseball has greatly increased in the previous three years. LSU no longer has the 'lock' on talent they once had. Solid players want to play TODAY! Good players don't want to wait two years and develop further until it is their turn to make the starting lineup.

Yeah, even before the injury/scratched start, Evans has showed he kinda reaches his limit around 60-70 pitches, which is completely find because he was so valuable in the long relief/closer role and was elite at it. But he may just not be a starting pitcher, and that's ok. I can only think of one start, Oklahoma, where he carried his stuff through his entire outing.

I agree 100%. We'll return Evans, Schmitt, and Moore next year... which is a pretty nice weekend rotation if Evans can find his old form.

We'll also have Garcia, Paz, Guidry, Rizy, and hopefully Sheerin.

Counterpoint, evans has pitched into the 6th inning 4 times out of 6 chances and completed 6ip 3 of those 6. Schmidt has done it 3 times out of 7, and never finished the 6th.

I think Garcia and Sheerin go pro.

And Rizy has not proven to be SEC-caliber. Dude has zero control

You think the "parity" we see in college baseball just started in the last 3 years?

I'm afraid you're about 20 years late, big dog. And you can't spell worth a shite.
