Then we have a good pitcher in the pen for games 2-3 and maybe a 4

But everything Jay has done is telling you he wants Hurd to be your third starter. More often than not the third starter pitches game 1 of a regional when you are a 1 seed.

This allows Coleman to be a relief pitcher which at this point in his recovery he is more suitable for.

If he pitches like that I don't care if the world knows that hes going to start the first game of the regional.

Sets up for a great weekend to have Skenes go Game 2 and Floyd game 3.

If you do that Hurd won't get a start at all.
Which is ideal. You use him as long relief for the rest of the weekend or if Floyd loses the 3rd game you have Hurd for game 4.

Coleman coming in for Floyd would be nasty.

Not sure why I thought if you lose your first game you would play an extra one somewhere.

you do

you can win the regional by winning three games or by losing the first one and winning four

You stretched him to 90+ and he has the second best stuff. He’s been our second best pitcher the last 6 weeks. He’s your regional game 1 with Floyd getting game 3. I love that setup.

Can't argue with any of this. The only question about the regional was whether it would be Hurd, or someone else for game one. Skenes & Floyd were going games 2 & 3, respectively.

Yep. He's always been our second best pitcher (especially after Taylor went down), he just hasn't pitched like it. And that's not a knock on Floyd. I've been behind Floyd all year.

However, I would only question starting Hurd, and saving Floyd, if we draw a 4 seed who has a legit ace. I don't 100% trust Hurd, and if the wheels fall off for him we are looking at burning serious bullpen and being in jeopardy of losing game 1.

An LSU team with Floyd as it's third best starter is a national championship team.
