SIAP

From The Advocate...
quote:

Johnson said the plan was for Dutton to face Bench then leave the game. The coach had no information on the extent of Dugas’ injury.

“The way they were swinging the bat we needed every advantage we could get,” Johnson said of pulling Dutton. “I didn’t want them to know what we were going to do. But that didn’t work out.”

Bush league. That’s when you know you have lost before the game even starts.

It's just so dumb. If you think Hasty gives you the best chance to win, give him the ball and tell him to go kick some arse. But, don't basically tell him his best chance to win is by trying to trick the other team. What kind of message is that sending to your players?

It also gives the appearance that Johnson doesn't think that Dutton can't compete with Ole Miss so let's you him to trick them.

It’s one of those things where if it works out everyone calls him a genius. Because it didn’t, everyone scratches their head.

It’s not unprecedented either. Happens in the majors a lot. Especially when teams have a lefty heavy lineup. The hope is the other team shifts the lineup around to make a more statistically favorable matchup.

This. Sometimes teams will use an opener who will throw an inning or two. But I’ve never seen a guy throw one pitch and then get removed. Embarrasses Dutton. Big time.

Nahh, its chicken shite whether it works or not. It also burns one of our more reliable Sunday arms.

An Ole Miss poster on SEC Rant says that Bianco doesn't change his lineup based on matchups. IF that is true, it makes the move that much worse IMO.

Exactly. At least let him throw to a couple batters and see what he’s got that day. Maybe he’s hitting his spots really well.

Its embarrassing for sure. Basically telling the kid we only trust you to throw one pitch and then we need to get you out before you get crushed.

How do you even determine whether or not it works? Hasty pitched well - do we just assume it's because we tricked the other team - do we just assume that Dutton wouldn't have pitched well?

Baloney! There is no difference in playing matchups at the beginning of the game then at the end if you don’t have a real starter - and we didn’t. Hasty went 4 innings, and that’s the best we could hope for. By starting Dutton he took away Bianco’s chance to play matchups with his lineup. It was a little trick to gain a little advantage. Nothing wrong with that.

It was the equivalent of punching at air. Bianco plays the same 9 nearly every game. It's his best 9. It had just scored 11 in game 2.

On a weekend in which we didn’t need him. Because Floyd had a nice outing in game 1, and game 2 turned into a laugher before we wasted a bunch of arms, we had a lot of our best arms rested. This changed the coach’s thinking on his Sunday pitching, and Dutton was not part of the plan. So he used him for a little deception.

Except you've burned an arm at the beginning of the game on one pitch.

LSU could save itself a lot of money on a head baseball coach's salary. Just let the Rant manage the team from their computers. This place has all the answers.

Because of this weekend, next weekend doesnt mean much if we dont sweep. So winning 2 of 3 next weekend wont accomplish much more than giving our guys confidence, which im for

This is a goddamn nightmare. People were leery of Vitello because of his hotheadedness but we got a bigger douche who doesn’t win.

Woodward needs to do some damage control now - suspend him for the midweek game and tell him if he ever does something like that again he won’t be wearing P&G
