Just playing devils advocate here, do we know for sure that Jalen didn't first ask for his release (due to obvious playing time issues) and then because that spot opened up, we took Bridgewater?
I know this is unlikely, but it is possible. Just because this was announced today, doesn't mean it didnt occur 2 weeks ago.

I get that, but LSU didn't necessarily go to him and say "you need to go to make room for a freshman". This choice to leave may have really been his, then because of that, we signed Bridgewater.

Nobody really knows what went down, but he's the guy that has been often injured and the least likely to see significant minutes next year. It's a strange situation for LSU to have this problem so this is uncharted territory. I can't think of the last time we had to "make room" for a player.

Yeah true. Like other people have said, it's a good problem to have I guess.
The point in my post though was for people to tap the breaks before criticizing LSU or Johnny Jones about this since we really don't know how it all went down.

Why is it that everyone gets upset when a player leaves after a year or two for the draft but suddenly it's okay if the university releases a player before is eligibility is up.

He will have to sit out next season and use his redshirt. Will be available for 2014-2015 season.

If he truly wants to get into coaching, I think this is a good move for him. I doubt he's burned any bridges in the process of transferring, but this gives him his 3rd HC to play under, as well as a whole host of assistant coaches that may become HC at some point.
He's going to have a lot of connections to draw on when he runs out of eligibility as far as finding a coaching staff to get a shot with.
