Gist: Les Miles said his decision would be “costly” to declare for the draft.

During interviews at the combine, 18 teams interviewed him about his problem with weed. Next thing he knew, a story comes out and says a source have ESPN information about him failing multiple drug tests while at LSU.

The only people that were in the know about his problem were Les and the school

Uhhh ok, I’m guessing Les is the reason for his problems while already in the nfl too?

More like making excuses for why he didn't make it.

Maybe he shouldn’t have broken the rules? Personal responsibility?

Wow. I guess he will get himself a lawyer then right? Nobody wants to take responsibility these days and it's sickening.

So Les and about 16 people?

Ya, Les did it.

A proper reading of this is more likely Les knew what would/could come out and was doing his best to help Jalen not get caught up in the BS for that season.

Tre White came in as a freshman, outplayed him and took his spot period.

By the way, what would it have mattered if he went higher? He’s whining he didn’t get more guaranteed money to NOT play football? Because he was suspended at least 4 times in a couple years

quote:

His first run-in came when Collins was suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season. He was then suspended for the first 10 games of the 2017 season this past fall, and he was later suspended four more games in 2017.

Collins wasn’t as good as White or Goblin. It’s really nothing more than that. These are 2 upper tier NFL DBs compared to whatever you’d consider Collins to be so it’s no mystery why he was passed up.

Sorry Jalen, but you this is what a loser sounds like. Weed isn’t as important as you think and blaming others for your actions is something a beta does.

Am I the only one that interprets costly to mean he would be drafted higher, thus making more money, if he had another year of experience and that this had nothing to do with weed?

Anthony Johnson said the same thing. He said Miles said he was making a huge mistake, but when the Dolphins signed him, a dolphins official said LSU trashed his reputation.

I hear ya about Jalen Collins not being that great or Freak not being that great. But our guys shouldn’t trash our players to the league.

It was all Les Miles fault.

I guess he put this story (and the opinions inside it) out:
LSU cornerback Jalen Collins may not slide far in NFL Draft
quote:

Even without the positive drug tests, some analysts have doubts about his fitness for the first round. The NFL Draft Advisory Board gave him a "stay in school" grade.

"There is a lot to like about Collins, but some of these young players need to realize it is not the right time to come out for the draft yet," ESPN analyst and former SUper Bowl champion coach Jon Gruden said. "They have not dominated from start to finish. I like guys who finish the job.

"I do not know that Collins has a complete body of work, but I do like his talent. He is intriguing, and I know he will do one thing I like, and that is tackle. I just need to know why he started so few games before I'm ready to sign off on him as an early choice."

quote:

Whichever team selects him won't be getting a completely finished product. Collins has some holes in his game, such as hand use and a tendency to get beaten on slant patterns. But Landry thinks all of his faults are correctable and that his press cover skills make him valuable.

"His best football is ahead of him," Landry said. "He doesn't play with really good technique. He gets beat on the slant. Are those correctable issues? Yes. He 's a kid that will work really hard and the measurable will help him. I wouldn't call him elite but I think he can be a god player at the next level.

"He's perfect fit as a press cover corner. He can do a lot of the things Richard Sherman can do. I'm not saying he's going to be as good. He'll have to grow and learn to do the other things to be a complete player."

I guess Les Miles also got in the ear of the guy writing draft profiles for walterfootball:
LINK
quote:

Collins has a rare combination of size and speed, but hasn't always played up to it. He flashed that speed when he tracked down Melvin Gordon from behind across the field on a long run in the 2014 season opener. Collins is good at running with receivers, but he needs to improve his ability to play the ball. He isn't natural at that and needs to get better at slapping passes away and picking passes off. His ability to play off-man coverage and flip his hips will need some work, too.

In speaking with sources from multiple teams, they say that Collins has a great skill set but he doesn't play up to it. If he did, he would be a top-10 pick like Patrick Peterson or Morris Claiborne. Collins is big and fast, but he doesn't play the ball well and has flaws in his technique. They feel that Collins has the skill set to be a good press-man corner and would be fitting with very successful teams/systems that are in vogue in the NFL with the Seahawks and Cardinals. A lot of how Collins pans out in the NFL will depend on him landing with good, stable coaching. A bad situation could end up failing Collins and not leading him to the career he's capable of having.

For the NFL, Collins has the physical skill set to be a No. 1 cornerback, but he needs development. There are only so many cornerbacks who have his combination of size and speed, thus he's likely to be a pick in the back half of the first round in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Here's the walterfootball draft profile on Anthony Johnson (who has also said Les Miles ruined his draft chances):
LINK
quote:

Johnson put on a show at the Combine. Scouts have raved to WalterFootball.com about the workout that Johnson put on display. Johnson ran well in the 40 and showed speed, explosion and agility in the bag drills. There is no doubt that Johnson has a great skill set, but he needs to land with good coaching to pan out.

Johnson was a highly touted recruit out of New Orleans, but he never lived up to the hype. As a freshman, he rotated into the game behind Michael Brockers and Bennie Logan, but still flashed a nice athletic skill set in limited opportunities. He recorded 12 tackles, three tackles for a loss and a sack. With Brockers off to the NFL in 2012, Johnson won a starting spot and totaled 30 tackles with 10 tackles for a loss, three sacks and one pass broken up.

The expectations were big for Johnson as a junior, but it didn't happen. Johnson totaled 35 tackles with nine tackles for a loss, three sacks and an interception in 2013. He wasn't as good as expected for most of this season. Johnson had a pressure and only two tackles against Alabama. He played better late in the year, but he never produced up to his potential in college. He could overwhelm offensive linemen at times, and there were other stretches where Johnson was getting consistently blocked by far inferior offensive linemen.
