Hit the WR late, after the ball was overthrown. Don't think it was a malicious play, but in this day of football it was the correct call IMO.

Yep. It was a good call but not worthy of any kind of ejection. Just late hit on the WR.

Was clearly late. Love Stevens but that was incredibly stupid.

Unnecessary Roughness was the penalty. The ball had clearly went pass the intended receiver and Stevens took 3 steps when he could have pulled up without making contact. It was the right call.

He hit the WR after the ball was dropped. He was behind the WR and was attempting to jar the football loose it appeared. Because the ball wasn't caught, it looked like an unnecessary roughness or personal foul.

Totally justified penalty. Stevens had plenty of time to pull up and he knows in today’s game you can’t do what he did.

It was a bit ticky tacky

You see these happen pretty regularly and was the correct call but probably not a necessary or common one

And it would have been 3rd and 8...

No, it was definitely the right call. It was a dumb and unnecessary play on his part. IIRC, the ball was tipped high into the air with no chance of it being caught at all. He took at least 2 extra steps just to hit the receiver when he easily could have pulled up.

I wouldn’t call it incredibly stupid. In the heat of the moment he had literally a second to make a decision and just chose wrong.

It can’t happen in a big game.

It wasn't malicious at all. 10 years ago we would have said he didn't hit him hard enough. It honestly should NOT have been a flag.

It wouldn’t been a penalty in 2009, but it’s called consistently in 2019.

10 years ago it wasn't a penalty nor was there an emphasis to prevent it.

Easier said that done when you are (a) watching from TV and (b) (in Stevens' case) moving at full speed, but he had a chance to avoid the hit and chose not to. It was a good call

It's not late if he thinks the WR caught the ball. I can't get into his head on what he was thinking but it seemed to me he may not have realized it went through the WR's hands.

It was a late, unnecessary hit. Whine about it not being a penalty ten years ago all you want. What matters is that in 2019, it’s a penalty and Stevens needs to be smarter out there.
